About CRR IITK

An MoU has been signed between the Government of India, Ministry of Railways, and the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur on 22/12/2015 for setting up The Centre for Railway Research Centre (CRR) at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. The CRR would conduct research for the advancement of technology relevant to Indian Railways and also help in developing a technically strong qualified manpower to support Railways ‘objectives. In line with the robust growth of Indian Economy, the transport business of Indian Railways too expected to grow at an average rate of 10% per annum over the coming decade. To achieve this phenomenal growth, Indian Railways is embarking on a major refocusing on technology supported innovative solutions. The Centre for Railway Research (CRR) at IIT Kanpur has been assigned with the research domain of Loco Research & Propulsion Technologies, Traction Installation/OHE. In addition, other broad indicative areas where joint research and development projects can be taken up by the Ministry of Railways with CRR, IIT Kanpur include:
