Applications are invited from SC, ST, OBC, EWS and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) (VH, OH, HH) under Special Recruitment Drive from Indian nationals in the Departments of Aerospace Engineering, Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Cognitive Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Earth Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Economic Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Sustainable Energy Engineering.
Several Departments also participate in the teaching and research activities of interdisciplinary post-graduate programs of the institute in Photonics Science and Engineering, Nuclear Engineering and Technology, Environmental Engineering & Management, Design Program, Materials Science Program. Appointments for these programs are made in the relevant departments among those listed above.
Minimum Qualification: Ph.D. with first class or equivalent (in terms of grades) at the preceding degree in the appropriate branch, with a very good academic record throughout.
Assistant Professor: Minimum three years Industry/Research/Teaching experience, excluding however, the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D.
For a fresh Ph.D, the position will be Assistant Professor (on contract) for the first three years and will be regularized afterwards. For those with three or more years of Teaching/Research/Industry experience, regular appointment may be offered.

The details of pay scale admissible at the time of joining are as follows:
1. The pay carries all other allowances as admissible to a Central Government employee stationed at Kanpur.
2. The benefits, such as LTC, medical re-imbursement, transport allowance, children education allowance, contribution towards New Pension Scheme (NPS), re-imbursement of telephone bills, book grants, research initiation grant (up to Rs 25 lakhs) and financial support towards national and international conferences shall be permitted as per the Institute norms.
3. From its internal resources, the Institute provides an additional top-up salary of Rs 25,000/- per month for the first three years of service to the newly joined faculty members. After three years of service, the faculty member(s) are eligible for Young Faculty Fellowship (open for faculty of age upto 40 years) providing a top-up salary of Rs.10,000/- per month for three years, and/or Faculty Chair positions providing a top-up salary of Rs 25,000/- per month for three years. Both the positions are based on performance.

5. Higher initial pay is admissible to exceptionally qualified and deserving candidates.
6. Mere eligibility will not entitle a candidate for being called for interview.
7. Applicants who do not fulfill the minimum experience requirements may be offered an appointment on contract. The requirements of minimum qualification and/or experience may be relaxed in the case of candidates with outstanding credentials.
8. Reservation will be applicable as per G.O.I. norms. The candidates are required to submit the Caste/ Category/ Disabilities Certificate issued by the Competent Authority in the format prescribed by the Government of India for this purpose.
9. The Institute reserves the right to withdraw any advertised post(s) at any time without assigning any reason.

11. Applicants called for and appearing in interview will be paid to and fro economy air fare/train fare by the shortest route (within India) and taxi fare from Lucknow/Kanpur airport to IITK and back. Please note that the amount of fare shall be remitted through electronic transfer by our Accounts Section after processing the claim. Local hospitality will be taken care of by the Institute.
12. Applicants are also requested to bring with them all the certificates, testimonials and other relevant documents at the time of interview.
13. Applicants who are employed in Government, Semi-Government Organizations or Institutions should send their applications THROUGH PROPER CHANNEL. Else, they will be required to produce a NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE from their employer at the time of interview.
14. No information will be sent to those candidates who are not shortlisted for interview. It is expected that the entire selection process will be over within six months of the issue of the advertisement.

Faculty Application ProcessEligibilityThose who have completed their PhD are eligible for applying for a Faculty position at IIT Kanpur.
All applications submitted online are available with the concerned Head of the Department as well as the Office of Faculty Affairs. The following steps are adopted for the evaluation of the applicants. Step 1: A group of faculty members of the concerned area of specialization gives its recommendation on the suitability of the candidates for a faculty position. Step 2: The candidates recommended by the faculty group are called for seminar. Step 3: Recommendation letters are sought from the referees of these candidates who are identified after the seminar. Step 4: The Department Faculty Advisory Committee (DFAC) shortlists the candidates on the basis of the application, faculty input, seminar and referee comments. Step 5: The shortlisted candidates are presented to the Institute Faculty Advisory Committee (IFAC) and are called for an interview.
