With a heavy heart, we come together as a community to address the profound loss of Lalit Kumar Beniwal, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, class of 2019, who left for heavenly abode on February 18th, 2024.

Lalit's life story has been that of immense courage and sacrifice. His commitment to justice and integrity was unwavering, as evidenced by his brave stance against corruption, which unfortunately led to his untimely demise.

Lalit was a Hindi medium student. His village of 12000 people celebrated his selection at IIT-Kanpur as no student had ever gone to IIT from this village, let alone to any other prestigious institute. He was pride of his Village.

He was serving as a village development officer (VDO) in Rajasthan, and was also preparing for UPSC exams, in which he cleared prelims twice. As he prepared tirelessly for the UPSC examination, Lalit selflessly took on the role of a Village Development Officer to aid his family financially and to provide service to society. It is over there that he filed a police complaint reporting instances of corruption. He sacrificed his life to fight corruption, as he was harassed by the local authorities after he filed his report.Such a tragic end to an honest and lively spirit. He is left behind with a family of 5 members, 3 dependent sisters, who are studying in institutions near their village. Lalit was very proud of his sisters for their academic performance. His father is a laborer in a brick kiln and mother too works as a laborer. Lalit had inspired his sisters and always encouraged them to study well. He was their role model. One of his sisters has received the prestigious Gargi Prize for meritorious achievement, while the other 2 are pursuing their B.Ed and preparing for NEET.

We need to support his three little sisters both emotionally and financially. We will request for volunteers to help this family out in the moment of the acute need for his family, as all three younger sisters he inspired to be independent.

Our heartfelt condolences and support go out to Lalit's family and loved ones in these difficult times.

We urge you to stand with us as we honour Lalit's memory and legacy. Your contributions will make a difference in seeking justice for Lalit and providing assistance to his grieving family.

Together, let us uphold the values of integrity, courage, and solidarity that Lalit embodied. Let his life be a testament to the power of one individual's conviction to make a positive change in the world. Please click here to donate generously to this cause.
