Faculty Initiatives

Attracting and Advancing Exceptional Academic Talent

World-class faculty are central to IIT Kanpur’s strength in education, research and innovation. They shape the learning experience, lead high-impact research, mentor future scholars and build academic programmes that influence institutions and society.

The Faculty Initiatives opportunity brings together the Faculty Fellow Program, Chair Professorships and the Distinguished International Faculty Program within one integrated framework. Its purpose is to help IIT Kanpur attract, recognise and support exceptional educators and researchers while strengthening global academic engagement.

Through philanthropic support, the Institute can provide faculty with the resources, recognition and international connections required to pursue ambitious ideas and sustain academic leadership over the long term.

About Faculty Initiatives

01. Faculty Fellow Program

The Faculty Fellow Program supports promising faculty members through fellowships and enhanced research-initiation assistance. It helps early- and mid-career academics establish independent research directions, build teams and accelerate their contribution to the Institute.

02. Chair Professorships

Chair Professorships recognise distinguished faculty for exceptional achievements in teaching, research and institutional leadership. They provide sustained support for advanced scholarship while helping IIT Kanpur attract and retain academic leaders in strategically important fields.

03. Distinguished International Faculty Program

The Distinguished International Faculty Program brings accomplished scholars from leading global institutions to IIT Kanpur for teaching, research collaboration and academic exchange. Their engagement can introduce new perspectives, strengthen international networks and create opportunities for students and faculty to participate in global research communities.
