Helping Students Turn Ideas into Ventures
IIT Kanpur has long encouraged students to think beyond conventional academic and career pathways. Many arrive with the technical ability to solve difficult problems, but building a venture also requires mentorship, early funding, market understanding and the confidence to act on an idea.
The Innovation & Incubation will provide a structured pathway for students who want to explore venture creation while they are still at the Institute. Through academic flexibility, incubation support, expert guidance and access to early-stage funding, the programme will help students move from identifying a problem to building and testing a credible solution.
Its purpose is not to push every student towards entrepreneurship. It is to ensure that those with the ambition and potential to build are not held back by the absence of support.
Creating a Stronger Path from Idea to Enterprise
Student founders often begin with limited resources and incomplete information. A technically promising idea may still require customer validation, product refinement, intellectual-property guidance, regulatory understanding or access to the right team.
Without structured support, many such ideas remain classroom projects or early prototypes.
The Innovation & Incubation will help students navigate these stages through mentorship, venture-building support and closer access to IIT Kanpur’s innovation ecosystem. It will enable them to test assumptions, learn from failure and develop the judgement required to build responsibly.
Students will also benefit from engagement with founders, alumni, investors, industry professionals and technical experts who can help them understand how real ventures are created and scaled.
About the Student
Entrepreneurship Program
Through IIT Kanpur’s incubation and innovation ecosystem, students can access mentorship, technical facilities, startup networks and opportunities for commercialisation.
The programme can also support academic credits for entrepreneurial work, helping students pursue venture creation without treating it as separate from their education.
