Q-HUB: The Quantum
Technology Hub

Building India’s quantum future

The proposed Q-HUB at IIT Kanpur is envisioned as an integrated national platform for quantum computing, research, fabrication and technology translation.

Designed around three connected pillars—advanced computing infrastructure, strategic research domains and fabrication-to-prototyping capability—Q-HUB will bring the quantum value chain together within one ecosystem. Its purpose is to help India move from scientific research towards secure, deployable quantum technologies with applications across healthcare, defence, agriculture, logistics, finance and advanced science.

With support already envisaged from government and technology partners, Q-HUB has the potential to position IIT Kanpur as a leading national centre for quantum capability, talent and innovation.

From qubits to real-world impact

Quantum technologies could transform how complex problems are solved, materials are designed, diseases are studied and critical systems are secured.

However, meaningful progress requires more than access to computing power. It requires researchers, specialised laboratories, indigenous fabrication capability, industry partnerships and a skilled workforce able to move ideas from theory to application.

Q-HUB is being designed as a closed-loop innovation system in which hardware supports advanced research, research generates new algorithms and devices, and fabrication facilities help convert promising prototypes into deployable products.

About Q-HUB

The Hub’s proposed computing infrastructure includes an on-premises IBM quantum system, cryogenic facilities, secure cloud access and capabilities for developing indigenous quantum hardware.

Its research agenda spans quantum computation and algorithms, materials and devices, imaging and sensing. Potential applications include drug discovery, supply-chain optimisation, advanced brain imaging, navigation in GPS-denied environments, mineral exploration and next-generation sensing.

A dedicated fabrication and prototyping facility will support cleanroom processes, advanced packaging, characterisation and control electronics—creating a stronger pathway from academic discovery to industry-ready technology. Q-HUB will also help train researchers, engineers and professionals required to strengthen India’s long-term quantum workforce.
