Portescap has been supporting Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur for the last four years on different research initiatives, such as designing and developing a miniature rotary actuator based on flexinol SMA, an adaptive smart stick for sit-to-stand motion, an interactive cloud based diagnostic platform for oral cancer, etc. under CSR funding.

IITKanpur incubated startup AcquaFront Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. has developed "i-Ghat." in which a state-of-the-art floating charging station allows the battery-powered electric boats to use captured solar energy through the RCC-based floating solar grid.The innovation uses renewable energy with zero air & noise pollution. Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya Ji, inaugurated the first-of-its-kind facility, "i-Ghat," at Kada Ghat, Kaushambi.

Social Innovation Lab (a collaboration between Citi, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and T-Hub) hosted a startup showcase event in Delhi for an interaction between the young innovators and angel investors, venture capitalists, corporate & government stakeholders. The event showcased 29 startups developing indigenous disruptive technologies, catering to critical contemporary challenges in agriculture, healthcare, and finance to over 100 industry stakeholders in a bid to accelerate availability of their social sustainable solutions to the Indian market.

IIT Kanpur won the National Award for e-Governance (Silver Award) from the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Government of India under the category 'Outstanding research on Citizen Centric Services by Academic/Research Institution' of the National Awards for e-Governance Scheme 2021-2022.

IIT Kanpur received the STEM Impact Awards 2022 for “Impactful Technology Transfer activities” for the socio-economic impact created by Bhu-Parikshak, a portable soil testing device. IITKanpur hosted Barefoot College International at the International Training Programme on ‘Mitigating Climate Changes while harnessing Renewable Energy’, in collaboration with African – Asian Rural Development Organisation. BCI, a globally recognized Section-8 social enterprise, has been working with last-mile rural communities in 16 states in India and 90 countries globally, educating rural women regarding solar alternatives and sustainableliving under their 'Solar Mamas' programme

SIIC, IITKanpur, signed an MoU with Korea Startup Forum during the COME UP Startup Festival, with the vision to promote Korean and Indian startups and collaborate for technology development for Asian markets. As part of this MoU, SIIC will provide opportunities for co-incubation and technology exchange to Korean Startups. Similarly, Indian Startups are also expected to benefit from innovative Korean technology solutions and develop world-class products for global customers.

IITKanpur in collaboration with the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), organized a training program from 17 Nov - 24 Nov 2022 on innovative technologies of renewable energies for rural areas, to mitigate the challenges of climate change.

A three-day literature festival, Akshar, was organized by the Shivani Center to commemorate the centenary year celebration of the life and works of famous Hindi author, Smt. Gaura Pant (‘Shivani’). The event was graced by eminent literary and academic personalities such as, Dr. Mrinal Pande, Dr. Pushpesh Pant, Prof. Shambhunath Tiwari; by poets and performers such as, Shri Veeru Sankar, pankaj Chaturvedi, Dr. Naresh Saxen, et al.

Chandrakanta Kesavan Center for Energy Policy and Climate Solutions organized a one-day brainstorming session on developing an actionable approach to NetZero. The workshop brought together eminent academicians, policymakers, NGOs, climate & energy experts, environmentalists, and ecologists to brainstorm the issues related to implementation aspects of sustainabledevelopment , ecological as well as socio-economic aspects.




Foundation Day


Celebrating its 63rd Foundation Day on 02 Nov. 2022, IIT Kanpur was privileged to have Shri. Subramanian Ramadorai, Chairperson, Karmayogi Bharat, and former Vice Chairman, Tata Consultancy Services, as the Chief Guest, and BoG Chairman, IITK Dr. K. Radhakrishnan Kopalli as the Guest of Honor. The event witnessed the presence of esteemed and highly accomplished alumni whose contributions have brought seminal changes in their respective fields, and have thus become a name to reckon with globally. Honored with the institute’s prestigious awards, such as the Distinguished Alumnus Award, Distinguished Services Award, Young Alumnus Award, and Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award, all the 16 awardees were overwhelmed and humbled by this recognition.
The institute also honored two of its highly esteemed faculty by conferring upon them the prestigious Institute Fellow, Prof. H.C. Verma, a highly renowned and acclaimed retired faculty of Physics, and Prof. S. C. Srivastava, Director, IIT Kanpur-La Trobe University Research Academy & Distinguished Visiting Professor.

On the eve of the Foundation Day, a classical music event was held, Antarang that showcased the talents of highly trained artists both from IIT Kanpur and outside. There were sessions of Rabindra sangeet, Hindustani and Carnatic vocal recitals. The highlight of the event was the performance by the BoG Chairman, IITK Dr. K. Radhakrishnan who performed on Carnatic vocals. These highly diversified recitals enthralled the audience both young and old alike.
