Know EPP

English Proficiency Programme of IIT Kanpur was initiated in 2013 and is perpetually engaged in making an improvement to the English proficiency of

• first, the institute students;
• next, the wider campus community;
• teachers of schools and colleges; and
• finally, the entire educated people of India.

The current position of EPP stands on five assets developed during 2013-16.

1. A complete Course on Functional English

   that

   • addresses adult audience in double role,

   • yet cruises through the essential elements of the language from the basics,

   • setting irregularities on the way,

   • over FOUR Modules (Quarters) [and a Module Zero for the needy]

   • in a logical structure

   • upto a professional level;

   • with special care for 'Indian' audience.

2. A lecture-demonstration video-illustration of the entire course

   linked with

   • the complete course material, and

   • indicative exercises to facilitate the adoption of the scheme by any instructor.

3. A strong team of academic contributors

   along with a perpetual vigilant mechanism to induct capable volunteers, as old team members move away in the usual pursuit of their careers.

4. A remarkably efficient and effective English Proficiency Test

   the pattern and the mechanism of which ensure that it can make

   • an objective graded assessment

   • of a large number of participants

   • in a systematic and timely manner.

5. A semester course on Language and Style of Scholarly Communication

   that embodies the EPP course on "Practical English" in the first half of its syllabus and facilitates an institute student to improve his/her English as part of an institute course for which he/she gets formal credits.
