Prof. Narendra K. Sharma was born on May 4, 1948, and passed away on October 15, 2025. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Prof. Sharma a distinguished member of the IIT Kanpur community, will be remembered for his profound contributions to teaching, research, and mentorship. His passing marks the loss of an inspiring educator whose dedication shaped generations of students and colleagues alike.

He received his BSc (Honours), MSc, MA, and PhD from Delhi University. He joined IIT Kanpur in 1980 in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and later moved to the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering in 2003, where he served until his superannuation in May 2013. During his association with the institute for over four decades, he contributed immensely to the fields of Marketing, Cognitive Psychology, Engineering Psychology, and Consumer Behaviour. He has published extensively in these areas and guided several PhD and MTech students.

During his career, Prof. Sharma also served in several key academic and administrative roles, including Dean of Academic Affairs, Head of the Department (DoMS, erstwhile IME), and Chairman, JEE 2002. His warmth, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to education will be remembered fondly by his colleagues, students, and the IIT Kanpur community.

The Department of Management Sciences and IIT Kanpur fraternity deeply mourns the loss of a valued member of its family and pray to the Almighty for the eternal peace of his soul.
