About Materials Advantage
The Material Advantage™ Student Program is the premier membership option for students interested in Materials Science and Engineering. This program provides students with scholarships and grants, career development and information, and access to professional and academic resources from most preeminent societies : ACerS, AIST, ASM International and TMS.
About the Chapter
Material Advantage™ at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is a student run group committed to the academic and professional development of materials science and engineering students. We work together to build awareness and interest in materials science and provide our members with career development opportunities as well as organizing outreach events to educate the general public about Material Science.

The members of Material Advantage at IITK, associate ourselves to accomplish the following:
- Promote Materials Science and Engineering through a joint chapter of ASM, TMS, AIST and ACerS.
- Provide opportunities for student to become active in the field of Materials Science and Engineering.
- Contribute to the learning experience by providing sufficient tools from our research centers and experienced professionals and Encourage professionalism, ethical behavior.
- Provide forums for the exchange of information.
Chapter Achievements
Material Advantage @ IIT Kanpur has won the "Most Creative Recruitment Strategies prize for the Fall 2021 Membership Challenge" and has recievied US$500 as prize money. Read Here
Ms. Shruti Dubey has been selected as ASM non-voting Student Board Member for 1-year term beginning immediately through July 2022. It is a great recognition of student from IIT Kanpur on ASM International platform.
Chair and Treasurer of MA IITK Student's chapter, Shruti Dubey and Zainul Abedin attended the first virtual International Materials Applications and Technologies (IMAT) 2020 conference proceedings held on October 26-28, 2020.
Zainul Abedin and Bishal Swarnakar has won Material Advantage Recruit a Member challenge. Zainul has won US$200 for recruiting multiple new members in February while Bishal has won US$50 for being one of the students Zainul recruited.
Chair of MA IITK Student's chapter, Shruti Dubey participated in the first virtual MS&T and played MS&T Trivia. With a score of 430 points, she is the winner of MS&T Trivia. Shruti has won a complimentary registration to MS&T 2021 which will be in Columbus, OH October 17-21, 2021.
Vice chair of MA IITK student's chapter, Rubia Hassan has won third prize in the SEM category of Ceramographic competition 2020 organised by ACerS
Material Advantage (MA) @ IIT Kanpur chapter has won (again this year!) Fall membership Challenge of "Most Student Recruited" Award from ASM International. MA @ IIT Kanpur chapter grew by 70.8%, which was highest during the official dates of this challenge. MA@IIT Kanpur will receive USD 1000 as monetary prize. We are Featured on the official Material Advantage Page!
Material Advantage @ IIT Kanpur has won "Chapter of Excellence Award" for the year 2019-20
from ASM International. Globally, over 100 Material Advantage chapters compete for one 'most
outstanding' and five 'chapter of excellence' annual awards. Chapter of Excellence award
includes a certificate and prize money of "US$450".

Four members (Ms. Shipra Bajpai, Mr. Vivek Verma, Mr. Prince Setia and Ms. Chinmayee Nayak) of Material Advantage, IIT Kanpur Chapter have received a sponsorship of $ 500 for attending the annual TMS meeting held on 23-27 Feb, 2020, San Diego, California, USA.
MA@IIT Kanpur has also received a 'Pizza Grant' from AIST for the chapter meeting (Won 100$ sponsorship from winning event) which took place on 18 Dec, 2019 at L14.
Participation and presentation in MS&T 2019
Material Advantage (MA) @ IIT Kanpur Chapter has won the Most Students Recruited Award (300% increase in members) for the 2019 Material Advantage Fall Membership Challenge, competing with more than 100 material advantage student chapters worldwide, and being awarded US$1000 from the Material Advantage chapter (i.e., ASM International).
