Visitors’ Hostel (VH)
Designed by the architect, Kanavinde and Oberai, the Visitors' Hostel (VH) was one of the first buildings to come up in 1963 on the campus along with few labs and duplex houses. Main attraction of VH is its dining hall whose roof is acoustically designed and funneled through concealed pipes to collect rain water.
The first function held at VH was on the New Year’s Eve in 1964, organized by Professor Oberai. VH has had the honor of hosting many distinguished personalities from all over the word. The earliest was Dr. Homi Bhabha. Over the years, VH has expanded its facility, and as of today, we have 15 suites, 1 Presidential suite, 67 twin bedded rooms along with two dining halls.
As the institute grew, a new Visitors' Hostel – 2(VH-2) with 103 rooms was constructed. For long-term visitors traveling with family, 8 two bedroom and 4 three bedroom Visiting Faculty Apartments (VFA) were constructed. These VFA are fully furnished houses.

India International centre- IIT-Kanpur is an Institutional member of India International centre, New Delhi. Located near Lodhi Gardens. It offers a number of facilities including boarding, lodging and meeting rooms. As institutional member, up to four rooms can be booked at a time for stay, with first two bookings charged at lower rate than next two.
Additional Facilities:
- Centralized booking system for all facilities at VH & Allied Services through a requisition form. All the forms are made available in departmental offices as well as downloadable from the Visitor’s Hostel website. - Payments of the boarding & loading charges have been accepted through cheque, debit/credit cards.
- Facility of intimation of confirmation of booking through an e-mail.
- All the guest rooms, Meeting Lounge, PBCEC and Dining Hall have Wi-Fi connectivity.User ID & Password is required for accessing the Wi-Fi enabled internet services. Guidelines for Wi-Fi access available on the reception
Management of day to day hospitality service has been outsourced to a private agency. An increase in facilities, services and a more professional approach has led to more transparency in day to day functioning of the system and increased occupancy rate, thus achieving more financial visibility in terms of operational expenditure.
