The Department of Space, Planetary & Astronomical Sciences & Engineering (SPASE), is dedicated to promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation of space sciences through dynamic public engagement initiatives. It helps promote Space and Astronomical education among the masses, enabling a deeper appreciation of the Universe and surroundings.
We aim to nurture the next generation of scientists, engineers, and space enthusiasts by inspiring curiosity and fostering a passion for discovery. Through our outreach programs, we connect academic research with the wider community, making the wonders of space science accessible, engaging, and impactful for people of all ages and backgrounds.
This innovative project, funded by the International Astronomical Union's Office of Astronomy for Development (IAU-OAD) 2024, aims to bring astronomy education to underprivileged children. Using a mobile observatory, we will conduct hands-on activities to ensure children from migrant families or low-income backgrounds in Kanpur and neighbouring areas have access to quality education in astronomy. We believe that the sky is open to all, and through this initiative, we aim to promote STEM education, inspire curiosity, and remove superstitions or misconceptions about astronomy from young minds. By encouraging children to explore their potential and develop a scientific approach, we hope to empower them to study and appreciate the celestial wonders.
Engaging with young minds is at the core of our outreach efforts. Our faculty, students, and volunteers visit schools to conduct interactive sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities that introduce children to the wonders of space science and technology. These visits are designed to spark curiosity, encourage inquiry, and ignite a passion for STEM fields among students.
