Instituted through the generous contributions of IITK alumni, this Fellowship honors one of them most respected and honored professors of the institute. Prof. R. N. Biswas was born in 1939 and obtained his BSc degree with Physics Honors in 1957 from Presidency College, University of Calcutta. He pursued MSc. (Tech) from Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta in 1960. He completed his PhD in 1966 from University of California at Berkeley in Electronic Circuits. He joined llT Kanpur in 1967 as an Assistant Professor.
The Fellowship acknowledges young and enthusiastic faculty under 40 years who are excellent teachers at an early age and will promote their efforts in creating new methods and pedagogical approaches.
Dr. Suparno Mukhopadhyay is an Assistant Professor, in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Kanpur. He completed Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Master's degree in Structural Engineering from IIT Kanpur, and PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Columbia University, New York. He teaches courses related to Structural Engineering, and has received the Excellence-in-Teaching Award from IIT Kanpur in 2021. His research focuses on Structural Health Monitoring, Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering. He serves in the Dynamics Committee and Structural Health Monitoring & Control Committee of the Engineering Mechanics Institute of ASCE, and is a member of the Editorial Board of Structural Control and Health Monitoring, the official journal of the International Association for Structural Control and Monitoring. Dr. Dootika Vats is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at IIT Kanpur. Previously, She was an NSF Postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Gareth Roberts at the University of Warwick. Her PhD in Statistics was from the University of Minnesota, Twin-Cities working with Prof. Galin Jones. She received her Masters in Statistics from Rutgers University and has to be Bachelors in Mathematics from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University.
She works in the area of Bayesian Computation, specifically, Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). Over the last few years, she has furthered the cause of output analysis in MCMC, publishing in top journals, and making open-source code available. For this work, she was one of the first to be awarded the Blackwell-Rosenbluth Award by the International Society of Bayesian Analysis. More recently, she also started working on stochastic optimization, and received the Google Research Award (India) last year. She serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics and Sankhya B. In addition to her research endeavors, she is deeply invested in training the next generation of Statisticians. Gratitude Video
