Giving Back

IIT Kanpur instituted Prof. R.N. Biswas Chair in Teaching Excellence on 21. Nov. 2021. Instituted in the name of one of the most respected and renowned teachers of IIT Kanpur, Prof. R.N. Biswas, the Chair would be awarded to the faculty members who have distinguished themselves in undergraduate teaching.




Mr. Muktesh Pant (BT/CHE/1976) donated USD 1 million for setting up Shivani Centre for the Nurture and Re-Integration of Hindi and Other Indian Languages at IIT Kanpur. The objective of the Center would be on providing students with opportunities for self-expression and personal growth, guarding them against feelings of exclusion and isolation while allowing them to gradually integrate with the socio-academic milieu of the institute. The Centre will try to address these issues not only at the institute level but also in the context of higher education in the country in general by facilitating the creation of academic resources (STEM content, textbooks, references, digital tools) in languages other than English.

Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra (RSK) was inaugurated by Ms. Martha Carreno, wife of Late Dr. Ranjit Singh (BT/MME/1965) on 18 Nov. 2021. RSK's main aim would be to upskill youth, facilitate employment and develop an ecosystem of social enterprises, and provide quality education for rural school children ensuring learning opportunities and all-round development.

Student Relaxing Garden Arena (PK Kelkar Library Fountain) was renovated through the support from the Classes of 1979 and 1995. It was inaugurated on IIT Kanpur’s Foundation Day, 02 Nov. 2021.



IIT Kanpur and J.K. Cement India signed an MoU of Rs.60 crore for setting up Super-specialty hospital as part of the ambitious School of Medical Research & Technology (SMRT). J.K. Cement India has donated to honour the memory of our distinguished alumnus, Late Shri Yadupati Singhania, former Chairman & MD of J.K. Cement Ltd.

Mr. Hemant Jalan contributed a generous amount of Rs 18 crores.
SMRT is a one-of-a-kind initiative by IIT Kanpur that aims to revolutionize healthcare research in India by bridging the gap between medical sciences and engineering disciplines.
