IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with the Indian Air Force (IAF) to establish the Air Vice Marshal Harjinder Singh Chair of Excellence and Research Scholars' Program at IIT Kanpur. The Chair of Excellence will promote teaching, research and technology development in Aerospace, Aircraft Structural Integrity, Aircraft Health Monitoring, and other allied subjects in Aeronautics & Aviation.

IIT Kanpur signed an MoA with the REC Foundation to support the upcoming School of Medical Research & Technology (SMRT). REC Foundation has committed financial assistance of Rs 14.4 Crores under its CSR program for the construction of residential blocks for the upcoming SMRT.

Prof. Jayant Kumar Singh, Department of Chemical Engineering and his team have developed a first of its kind portable soil testing device that can detect soil health in just 90 seconds through an embedded mobile application, Bhu Parikshak. The rapid soil testing device will assist farmers in obtaining soil health parameters of agricultural fields with a recommended dose of fertilizers. The mobile application is made available in local languages, and the device is designed keeping in mind the ease of use for farmers.

Offgrid Energy Labs, an IIT Kanpur incubated company, won the Mark Mobius EMI Pitch Competition, held during the ‘Emerging Market Institute Conference 2021' at Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. Offgrid has been working on innovative energy storage solutions based on innovative IP. The company's first product ZincGel® battery is undergoing field trials with a few global energy companies.

IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with the Institute of Engineering (IOE) at Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal, for academic cooperation and research partnership. As per the MoU, both institutes will participate in faculty & students exchange programs and collaborate in research & activities promoting science, engineering and humanities.

IIT Kanpur developed an aquatic autonomous observatory named Niracara Svayamsasita Vedh Shala (NSVS) for onsite monitoring, real time data transmission & web-based visualisation of river Ganga. Project is led by Prof. Bishakh Bhattacharya as the principal investigator. It was inaugurated by Prof. A.R. Harish, DoRD, IIT Kanpur, at Laxman Ghat of Bithoor.

Prescience Insilico Private Limited, an IIT Kanpur incubated company, won the Global Innovation Challenge at the Global Innovation Summit 2021 held in Bangalore. The theme of the Summit was, “Discover in India: Accelerating the innovation journey of the Indian life sciences industry”. Over 56 companies and academic institutes participated in the challenge.

CRUBN, an IIT Kanpur incubated company, partnered with the Centre for Smart Governance, a software development agency of the Karnataka government, to develop a blockchain network across the country. It will be used for validating the claims of suppliers along with their identities. It shall also digitize bank guarantees by powering them using the trust-based automation of blockchain.

Prof Rajiv Sinha of IIT Kanpur developed `Ganga Atlas' and a workflow that allows users to process and analyse declassified imagery of riverine environments at minimal cost, using open-source software. The 'Ganga Atlas' documents the changes in the Ganga River over the last 5-6 decades in terms of channel morphology, land use & land cover, river dynamics and associated issues. The project was undertaken as a part of a research project funded by the NMCG.

FIRST, IIT Kanpur, partnered with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to facilitate the MSME Design Scheme & promote the creation of toy clusters. Phool developed a prototype to replace the regular leather with that made of flower waste, named "Fleather".

"Tech for Tribals" won the "Best Entrepreneurial Skill Training Project" award at the first Van Dhan Annual awards of the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED). The award was presented on the 34th foundation day of TRIFED. Tech For Tribals is a unique initiative run by IIT Kanpur's technology business incubator, Foundation for Innovation & Research in Science & Technology (FIRST). The program aims at holistic development of the tribals with a focus on entrepreneurship development, soft skills, IT, and business development through SHGs operating through Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs).

IITK incubated company Acquafront Infrastructure deployed a patented technology “Self Adjusting Fixed Type Jetty (SAFTJ)” to construct world’s first floating CNG filling station for eco friendly boats on the Khidkiya Ghat, Varanasi. The station is designed to ensure the consistent and safe CNG pipeline connection to all the dispensers with controlled risk factors even in peak flood season.
