Dr. Devendra Shukla is the founder of one of the strongest environmental businesses in the northwestern region of United States. Innovative Technical Solutions (ITSI) is an award-winning infrastructure and environmental firm that has an extensive experience of working with the federal government departments and other agencies worldwide. Now, it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gilbane Building company. In 2009, IIT Kanpur conferred upon him the Distinguished Alumnus Award for his outstanding entrepreneurial excellence and managerial skills.
Dr. Shukla received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1967 and a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware, USA, in 1974. Following it, he started working at a global geotechnical and environmental firm. At Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, a deep geological repository for nuclear waste in New Mexico, his leadership steered the unit to tenfold growth in a year and made it one of the most profitable companies. In 1986, he became the General Manager of a number of hazardous waste treatment and disposal facilities. He worked on pioneering technical projects, which include probabilistic seismic assessments, nuclear power plants, mines, tunnels, and nuclear and hazardous waste disposal facilities.
Later, Dr. Shukla set up three notable business units before laying the foundations of Innovative Technical Solutions (ITSI) in 1994. ITSI is an award-winning infrastructure and environmental firm that has handled engineering and construction needs of the U. S. federal government, including the Department of Defense, EPA and Department of Energy. It has an international presence in more than 26 countries including Middle East, Korea, Japan, Diego, Garcia, Hawaii and Europe. It has worked with more than 150 military bases/installations throughout the U.S. and worldwide. Owing to its unique technical expertise, global network and best customer standing among its federal clients, ITSI was acquired by the Gilbane Building company in 2010.
