The Centre is a multi-user, multi-disciplinary facility that provides microscopy and imaging services in support of teaching and research for students, faculty and other researchers. The strength of the centre lays both in the collection of high end instrumentation and the technical expertise of faculty and staff associated with the facility. The centre offers world's most sophisticated instruments for sample preparation, fabrication and characterization of materials at micro and nano scales.
Advanced Imaging Centre (AIC) at IIT Kanpur, has been established to disrupt the stratification of discipline in the characterization of materials. It is among the eight centres supported by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) across India with the objectives of providing state of the art imaging facility and resources for research and development activities. It offers a critical mass and outstanding expertise in the wide range of electron microscopy techniques available for materials characterisation down to atomic scale. This facility is intended to bring together multidisciplinary expertise to drive synergy and amplify our characterization capabilities which support continuous fundamental research, innovations, brain storming and global interactions with academia as well as industry. The success of AIC results from the combination of scientific expertise, experienced technical staff, and well-maintained, state-of-the-art research infrastructure. This infrastructure facilitates both cutting-edge and more traditional tools in electron microscopy.

Unravelling Attributes by Electron Microscopy
In this diverse and fast changing arena of nanosciences and nanoengineering, an analytical facility equipped with advanced electron microscopes and specimen preparation tools is highly desirable for sustainable research. In this milieu, Nanosciences (CNS) and Advanced Imaging Centre (AIC) at IIT Kanpur, has been established to disrupt the stratification of discipline in the characterization of materials It is among the eight centres supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) across India with the objectives of providing state of the art imaging facility and resources for research and development activities. Over the past few years Nanosciences and Advanced Imaging Centre has became the materials characterization hub for the academic institution, research centre and industry.
