  • Prof. D. Goswami has been nominated as a honorable Member, Board of Governors, Uttar Pradesh Textile Training Institute, Kanpur, for a period of three years

  • Ms. Chetna Yadav, Ph. D. student of Prof JN Moorthy, was chosen for the best poster award in the International Union Crystallography Congress held at Hyderabad (August 21-28, 2017).

  • Prof. Jitendra K. Bera has been selected for C. N. R. Rao National Prize in Chemical Sciences 2018, instituted by C.N.R. Rao Education Foundation for promotion of Chemical Research, under the aegis of Chemical Research Society of India. This award is given for his outstanding research contributions and carries a citation and a cash prize.

  • Mr. I. Avinash, PhD student in the laboratory of Dr. G. Anantharaman, has been awarded Best Poster Award for his poster entitled "A Proficient Synthesis of Backbone Halo-Funtionalized Imidazolylidene/imidazolyl-Metal Complexes: Structure, Donor Property and Catalytic Application" in 21st CRSI-National Symposium in Chemistry, held at IICT, Hyderabad from (July 14-16, 2017). This award was sponsored by ACS Omega.

  • Prof. R. N. Mukherjee has been invited as a Guest Co-Editor of frontline ACS journal Inorganic Chemistry for their special "Forum Issue" on "Reactivity of Metal Complexes with Ligand-Centered Radicals", which will be released in 2018.

  • Dr. Basker Sundararaju has been awarded the P. K. Kelkar Young Faculty Research Fellowship from IIT Kanpur.

  • Prof. Sandeep Verma has been selected for the National Prize for Research on 'Interfaces between Chemistry and Biology', donated by AVRA Laboratories and instituted at C N R Rao Education Foundation, Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Research, Bangalore.

  • Ms. Gagandeep Kaur (supervisor: Prof. S. Verma) and Mr. Nagaraju Barsu (supervisor: Dr. B. Sunderaraju) are selected for the prestigious 67th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, to be held in Lindau, Germany (June 25-30, 2017). They will be among 400 young scientists chosen around the world for a close interaction with several Nobel Laureates, for an extended period of time.

  • Mr R. Parasuraman (PhD student from Prof. Y. D. Vankar's group) was selected for Best Poster award in the Indo-German Workshop on "Recent Applications of Carbohydrates in Chemistry and Biology (RACCB-2017)" held at IIT(BHU) Varanasi, (Feb 14-16, 2017).

  • Prof. Sandeep Verma has been invited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, to serve as an Associate Editor of Chemical Communications.

  • Prof. P. K. Bharadwaj has delivered the prestigious Prof. P. T. Manoharan Endowment Lecture in Department of Chemistry, IIT Madras, on 'Supramolecular Chemistry of Cryptands'.

  • Prof. Y. D. Vankar delivered the presitigious Prof. K. K. Balasubramanian Endowment Lecture in Department of Chemistry, IIT Madras, on 'Synthetic Studies Towards Biologically Relevant Imino- Amino-, and Annulated Sugars from Glycals'.

  • Mr. Anas Ansari (Ph.D. student of Dr. Ramesh Ramapanicker) was selected for Michael C. Pirrung Best Poster award in 21st International Conference on Organic Synthesis (ICOS 21) held at IIT BOMBAY, (11-16 December 2016).

  • Mr. V. Veeraswamy (PhD student of Prof. M. K. Ghorai) was selected for best poster award during 21st International Conference on Organic Synthesis (ICOS 21) held at IIT BOMBAY, (11-16 December 2016). The conference was jointly organised by IIT BOMBAY, CSIR-IICT HYDERABAD and IUPAC.

  • Prof. Manas K. Ghorai has been elected to the Fellowship of West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology – 2016, for his seminal contributions to synthetic organic chemistry.

  • Mr. Prithwidip Saha, PhD student of Dr T. G. Gopakumar, has won the best poster award in theme “Scanning Probe Microscopy and Electron Microscopy" during the International Conference of Young Researchers on Advanced Materials (IUMRS-ICYRAM 2016) at IISc Bangalore (11-15 December 2016). This conference is jointly organized by the International Union of Materials Research Society (IUMRS) and Materials Research Society of India (MRSI).

  • Prof Vinod K Singh has been elected as a Fellow of 'The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries'. He has been elected to the Academy for his outstanding contributions to science and its promotion in the developing world.

  • Prof. Debabrata Goswami has been elected as a Fellow of The Optical Society (OSA), USA. He is being recognized "for seminal and significant contributions in ultrafast optical instrumentation for exploitation in cross-disciplinary fields like quantum information and biomedical applications as well as pedagogy in optics and photonics and voluntary services to OSA." As an OSA Fellow, he joins a distinguished group who has served the Society and the optics and photonics community with distinction.

  • Mr Ganesh Murhade (PhD student, Supervisor: Dr DH Dethe) has been selected for Eli Lilly and Company Outstanding Thesis Award 2016, coordinated by NOST. This award carries a cash prize of USD 1000 and a Lilly plaque, and it will be presented to him during J-NOST 2016, being organized in Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow (November 24-27, 2016).

  • Prof. R. N. Mukherjee has been invited to join the Editorial Advisory Board of Inorganic Chemistry for a period of three years, beginning January 1, 2017. Inorg Chem is the most widely cited and respected journal of the American Chemical Society in its field, with articles covering a broad spectrum of interests, including bioinorganic, organometallic, solid state and materials chemistry, and the chemistry of nanoscale systems.

  • Prof Amalendu Chandra has been invited to join the Editorial Advisory Board of Journal of Physical Chemistry for a period of three years beginning January 1, 2017. J Phys Chem is a widely cited and respected journal of the American Chemical Society, covering a broad spectrum of interests in physical chemistry. His duties will involve consultations concerning journal policy, quality and the future of J Phys Chem.

  • Prof Jitendra K Bera has been invited to join the Editorial Advisory Board of Organometallics, for a period of three years beginning January 1, 2017. Organometallics is a widely cited and respected journal of the American Chemical Society, covering a broad spectrum of interests including catalysis, main group chemistry, bioorganometallics and the chemistry of lanthanides and actinides. The Editorial Advisory Board consists of approximately 25 internationally distinguished scientists, with interests covering the full range of organometallic chemistry

  • Professor Sandeep Verma has been selected for the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) Silver Medal, 2016 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to research in chemistry.

  • Mr. Prithwidip Saha (supervisor Dr. T. G. Gopakumar) has received a merit award for his oral presentation during the International Conference on Electron Microscopy 2016, jointly organized by the Electron Microscopy Society of India (EMSI) and IIT BHU Varanasi, on 2-4 June 2016.

  • Ms Shalini Awasthi (Ph.D. student of Dr. Nisanth Nair) has received First Prize in poster presentation during "CPMD Meeting 2016", held at the University of Chicago, USA. "CPMD Meeting" is a well known biannual international conference in the field of first principle-based molecular simulation of molecular systems, materials, and biomolecules.

  • Prof. M. L. N. Rao has been elected as a Fellow of Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences (APAS).

  • Mr. Mahesh Parsutkar, M.Sc.(2 Year) student has secured an all India second rank in GATE 2016 under chemistry discipline.

  • Prof. Sandeep Verma and Prof. J. N. Moorthy have been promoted as HAG professor.

  • Prof. M. L. N. Rao has been invited to join the Editorial Advisory Board of Mini-Reveiws in Organic Chemistry (MROC), published by Bentham Science Publishers.

  • Mrs Geeta Chamoli, Chemistry Department Office, has been selected for the Merit Award for 2016. She will be presented with a certificate of appreciation and Rs 30,000 cash prize by the Director, IIT Kanpur, during the Republic Day function.

  • Dr. Ashis K Patra has been selected for JSPS Invitation Fellowship 2016 for research in Japan.

  • Mr. Vadlamuri Veeraswamy (supervisor: Prof. M. K. Ghorai) was honored with prestigious 'Professor P. Sengupta Memorial Award' and cash prize for his poster in '52nd Annual Convention of Chemists 2015 and International Conference on Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences' organized by Indian Chemical Society held at JECRC University, Jaipur, during December 28-30, 2015.

  • Dr. Pratik Sen has been selected as a member of the Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS) for the period 2016-2021.

  • Prof. J. N. Moorthy has been conferred with the Millennium Plaque Award of the Indian Science Congress for the year 2015-2016.

  • Mr. B. Vijay Kumar (Ph. D. student of Dr. D. H. Dethe) has been awarded Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, sponsored Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry Best Poster Prize at XI J-NOST conference at NISER Bhubaneshwar (Dec 14-17, 2015).

  • Mr Narendra Kumar Mishra (supervisor: Prof S Verma), was awarded the Best Poster Award at 7th International Peptide Symposium 2015 (jointly organized by Nanyang Technological University and A*STAR Biomedical Science Institutes, Singapore) for his poster titled 'Inhibition of Human and Bovine Insulin Fibril Formation by Designed Peptide Conjugates'.

  • Ms Khushboo Yadav (supervisor: Dr. T. G. Gopakumar) and Ms Gagandeep Kaur (supervisor: Dr. S. Verma) have been declared winners in the Artistic Micrography Contest 2015-16, jointly organized by Indian Institute of Metals, Kanpur Chapter, and Material Advantage, Kanpur Chapter, held on 28th November, 2015.

  • Mr. P. Chandrasekhar (PhD student of Prof. J. N. Moorthy), was selected for International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) Poster Prize, in 13th Conference of Asian Crystallographic Association, held in Kolkata (December 5-8, 2015).

  • Prof. Manas K Ghorai's group has developed a new synthetic route to chiral 3-substituted indolines, which provides to a wide range of chiral indolines in excellent yields (99 %) and enantiomeric excess (99% ee). Sigma-Aldrich has placed his research article in their website (http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/) in context of indolines product series and is offering the abstract and free full-text for the scientific community and potential customers.

  • Mr. Subhomoy Das (Supervisor: Prof. M. Ghorai), Ms. Anijamol T. Philip (Supervisor: Dr. R. Ramapanicker) and Mr. Vivek Gupta (Supervisor: Dr. G. Anatharaman) have won RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry) poster prizes during the RSC-IIT Kanpur Symposium in Chemical Sciences (Nov 23, 2015). 

  • Ms. Gagandeep Kaur (Supervisor, Prof. S. Verma) has been awarded a Travel Bursary to attend the 11th Australian Peptide Conference from Australian Peptide Society. The bursary will be to a value of AUD 600. 

  • Two former Ph. D. students of Department of Chemistry, Dr. R. D. Erande (Supervisor: Dr Dattatraya H Dethe) and Dr. V. Venkatesh (Supervisor: Prof Sandeep Verma) have been honored with Eli Lilly Outstanding Thesis Award 2014 by National Organic Symposium Trust, India. 

  • Mr Sarvesh Pandey, PhD student in the group of Prof S Manogaran, has been awarded 1st Prize for Best Oral Presentation for his paper entitled "Quantification of Aromaticity Based on Interaction Coordinates: A New Approach" in National Symposium On Innovative Methods in Chemistry Education (IMCE-2015) And National Convention of Chemistry Teachers (NCCT-2015) organized by Department of Chemistry, University of Lucknow, Lucknow (October 8-10, 2015) 

  • Professor Sandeep Verma has been elected as Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy. 

  • Professor Manas K. Ghorai has been elected as a Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc). This prestigious Fellowship is in recognition to his seminal contributions in developing concepts of memory of chirality, along with Lewis acid catalyses of activated aziridines and azetidines, via SN2 ring opening, to afford chiral intermediates for the synthesis of natural products. 

  • Prof. Pradyut Ghosh, Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata, has been selected for the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize 2015 in Chemical Sciences. Prof. Ghosh did his PhD in Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, in 1998 under Prof. P. K. Bharadwaj. The Department of Chemistry, IITK conveys its hearty congratulations to Prof. Ghosh on his remarkable success. 

  • An article on 'Disposal of Chemical Waste in IIT Kanpur', by Prof. Jitendra K. Bera, (translated by Rajbhasha Cell, IIT Kanpur), published in August 2015 issue of 'Antas', has fetched an award under 'Technical Writing' category by 'Rajbhasha Seva Sansthan, New Delhi'.   • Prof. Amalendu Chandra has been selected for Endowed Chair Professorship by the Institute (2015). He will occupy the N. C. Nigam Chair for three years.

  • Prof. Manas K. Ghorai has been selected for Endowed Chair Professorship by the Institute (2015). He will occupy the USV Chair for three years.

  • Professor Y. D. Vankar has been conferred the Distinguished Teacher Award 2015, by IIT Kanpur. The award was presented to him on September 5 during the celebration of Teachers day.

  • Dr. Dattatraya H. Dethe and Dr. Pratik Sen have been selected for P. K. Kelkar Research Fellowship (Young Faculty Research fellowships) for a period of three years.

  • Prof. R. Gurunath (Section of Environmental Sciences), Prof. J. N. Moorthy (Section of Materials Sciences) and Prof. Sandeep Verma (Section of Chemical Sciences) have been selected to deliver the Platinum Jubilee Lecture at the 103rd Indian Science Congress to be held at University of Mysore, Mysuru, during January 3-7, 2016. The Platinum Jubilee Lectures were initiated in 1988 to commemorate 75th year of the inception of Indian Science Congress Association.

  • Prof. K. Srihari has been selected to receive Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) Bronze Medal in recognition of his outstanding research contributions in chemistry.

  • Prof. Amalendu Chandra has been selected to receive the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) Silver Medal in recognition of his extensive and outstanding contributions to research in chemistry.

  • Prof. Jitendra K Bera has been selected for Department of Atomic Energy-Science Research Council (DAE-SRC) Outstanding Investigator Award-2014. This prestigious award is in recognition to his seminal contributions to Chemical Sciences.

  • Dr. D. H. Dethe has been selected for AVRA Young Scientist Award 2014, awarded by the A V Rama Rao Research Foundation, Hyderabad. This award is being bestowed for his significant research work in organic chemistry and total synthesis.

  • Prof. J. N. Moorthy has been selected for Endowed Chair Professorship by the Institute. He will occupy 'Dr. Jag Mohan Garg Chair' for a duration of 3 years. This is in recognition of his excellent contributions in a long and sustained manner at IIT Kanpur.

  • Prof. Jitendra Bera has been selected for Endowed Chair Professorship by the Institute. He will occupy 'Satish Chandra Agarwal Chair' for a duration of 3 years. This is in recognition of his excellent contributions in a long and sustained manner at IIT Kanpur.

  • Prof. J. N. Moorthy has been awarded the prestigious J. C. Bose fellowship from DST (2015).

  • Dr. Deo Prakash Tiwari who did Ph.D. with Porf. Manas K. Ghorai has been selected for the 1st Prize of "2014 Lilly Outstanding Thesis Awards". The award consists of USD 1500 and a plaque.
