Dr. Sachchida Nand Tripathi is a Higher Administrative Grade (Senior) Professor of Civil Engineering at IIT Kanpur and also a core faculty at the department of Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE), IIT Kanpur.

Prof. Tripathi has built ground-breaking innovative approaches for indigenously built low-cost sensor-based network technologies for nation-wide urban air quality monitoring and Real Time Source Apportionment (RTSA). His work on Taj Mahal discolouration led to policy interventions in Agra city. His pioneering work in aerosol-induced cloud invigoration effect (AIvE) and synergy of coupling between urban land use, land cover and Cloud Condensation Nuclei-induced AIvE has contributed significantly in future urban planning to avoid flash floods.

Under the leadership of Prof. Tripathi, Center of Excellence for Advanced Technologies for Monitoring Air Quality Indicators (CoE - ATMAN) - instituted by the Principal Scientific Advisors’ office - has developed a novel low-cost approach to source apportionment. CoEATMAN, with Prof. Tripathi as the principal investigator, focuses on building indigenous lowcost sensor manufacturing and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning capabilities within the country to help with the goal of improving the air quality in all the urban and rural cities/towns and villages of India. Prof. Tripathi and his team, are currently working on an ambitious project, involving fabrication of indigenous sensors for measuring PM2.5. The team is also looking forward to create intelligent solutions for managing air quality, middleware for municipal functions, efficient energy systems and sustainable mobility at city level.
