Established in 2025 within the Wadhwani School for AI and Intelligent Systems, the Department of Intelligent Systems at IIT Kanpur is committed to pioneering research and education in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence and related disciplines. Our mission is to explore and innovate across a broad spectrum of topics vital to creating intelligent software and cyber-physical systems. This includes, but is not limited to, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, Optimization and Control, Pervasive and Mobile Computing, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, and robotics.

A central focus of our department is to translate cutting-edge AI research into practical, real-world applications that can positively impact society. We aspire to develop intelligent systems capable of transforming lives, both within India and globally, by addressing important social, economic, and technological challenges.

Our department is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of innovative engineers and researchers. Through rigorous undergraduate (BTech) and postgraduate (MTech, MS, and PhD) programs, we aim to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to develop advanced intelligent software and cyber-physical systems.
