Industry Connect Talk Series

Speakers from the industry are invited to present the areas of interest to explore possibilities of collaboration with researchers in IIT Kanpur.

On 29th March, 2016, Dr. Pushpendra Kumar from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation delivered a talk on Technological challenges for commercialization of gas hydrates. Dr. Kumar is the General Manager and Head-Unconventional Research Group at Keshav Dev Malviya Institute of Petroleum Exploration, ONGC, Dehradun India. He is leading the Indian National Gas Hydrate Program on behalf of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India for the next phase, i.e, gas hydrate pilot production testing in KG deep offshore area NGHP – 3.

 

 

 

 

 

 



A team from Mitsubishi comprising Mr. Hikaru Tashiro (Team Head), Mr. Yuichi Koga, Mr. Naoyuki Fujiwara & Mr. Rohit Arora, presented on 18th March, 2016 an overview of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and their research and Innovation. Founded in 1884, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries sought to pioneer new approaches in manufacturing & contributed to the development of societies. Their wide areas of research interest for possible collaboration include technical issues related to the field of Materials Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Chemical & BioTechnology,Structure & Strength Technology, Vibration Technology, Tribology Technology, Fluid Dynamics Technology, Combustion, Heat Transfer
Technology, Instrumentation & Electronic, Application Technology, and System Control Technology.

 

 



A team from Emerson Network Power comprising Mr. Sunil Khanna, President, Mr. VikasLuthra, General Manager, Quality, and Mr. KamleshKeharia, Head R&D, AC Power Business, delivered a talk on 9th November, 2015.

The covered topics included energy efficient designs of data centre, power plant solutions for telecom, latest trends in energy efficient precision cooling solutions and wireless solutions for process plants.

 

 

 



Dr. Chedarampet S. Karthikeyan, from Global Dow Ventures & Business Development, delivered a talk on 5th October, 2015

An overview of the Dow Chemical Company as well as about different business areas of Dow including packaging, water purification, electronic materials, agricultural chemicals, coatings (industrial, protective, decorative and architectural), performance plastics, adhesives, polyurethanes, elastomers, plastic additives, solar, food and pharma, home and personal care were presented . The talk also described as to what do they do in Dow ventures & business development and the process to bring new technologies.

 

 

 

 

 



Dr. Badri Gomatam and Dr. Arvind Mishra from the Sterlite Technologies Limited delivered a talk on 27th November, 2014.

Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL) develops & delivers products, solutions and infrastructure for telecom & power transmission networks, globally. STL is among the global leaders in all its business areas of Optical Fiber, Fiber Optic Cables, Power Conductors and HV / EHV Power Cables through its operations in India, China & Brazil. Areas of possible collaboration were discussed.

 

 

 



Mr. Sunil Mandem, Mr. Shenbagakannan A. and Mr. Ravsaheb Shinde from SKF delivered a talk on September 22, 2014.


Areas of possible collaboration were discussed. SKF has been a leading global technology provider since 1907 with the fundamental strength in the ability to continuously develop new technologies in the areas of bearings and units, seals, mechatronics, services and lubrication systems - and then use them to create products that offer competitive advantages to customers.

 

 



Mr. M. R. Saraf and Mr. D. J. Kulkarni from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune delivered a talk on September 10, 2014.

The ARAI has been playing a crucial role in assuring safe, less polluting and more fuel efficient vehicles and provides technical expertise in R&D, testing, certification, homologation and framing of vehicular regulations. ARAI also assists the Government of India in formulation of automotive industry standards and acts as the secretariat for WP 29 activities. Areas of possible collaboration were discussed.

 

 

 



Dr. John Kim, Mr. Chatur Gadhia, Mr. Kaushik Dutta, Mr. Guruprasad N, and Mr. Amit Kapoor, from LG Soft India (LGSI) delivered talks on May 28, 2014.


LG Soft India is the innovation wing of LG Electronics in Bangalore, India. LG Soft India is the largest research & development centre of LG Electronics outside Korea. It focuses on niche technology areas such as mobile application development, digital video broadcast, biometrics software, etc. Areas of possible collaboration were discussed.

 

 



Mr. Biju Uthup, Project Director, IUSAV,ADA, DRDO, delivered a talk on 21st March, 2014. ADA is involved in the development of advanced aircraft to satisfy future strategic needs. Developing such an aircraft requires integration of vast number of advanced technologies into a complex system. These technologies can be technologies directly onboard or enabling technologies that ensure an advanced system. He presented some of the advanced technologies being developed at ADA as well as initiated at various partner labs across the country. Collaborations were invited on all technologies that could lead to the development of an advanced aircraft.

 

 



The inaugural talk, titled "L&T – Company overview and areas of interest for academic collaborations", was delivered by Mr. G. B. P. Manivannan, Principal Technology Officer at Larsen & Toubro Ltd. on 18th September, 2013.

Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) is India’s largest Engineering & Construction company with interests in infrastructure development, manufacturing and financial services. Some of the key areas where L&T seeks engagement with IIT Kanpur are wireless smart sensor network, smart grid, cloud computing, M2M cloud solution, and some specific focus areas include Embedded Technologies like IP development & energy harvesting/consumption reduction systems, aerospace/ defence technology development has robotic systems like UAV etc.

The visiting team from L&T comprising Dr. G. Anand, Mr. Gyan Pattnaik, Mr. Ashok Kumar, along with Mr. G. B. P. Manivannan, held discussions with some faculty members. An MOU has been signed between IIT Kanpur and L&T.
