The Air Quality Monitoring & Climate Systems thematic area at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur focuses on developing advanced technologies and data-driven solutions to address air pollution and its impact on climate and public health. At the core of this initiative is the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Technologies for Monitoring Air-quality iNdicators (ATMAN).

ATMAN focuses on next-generation particulate matter sensors, real-time source attribution using sensor networks, and AI/ML-driven nationwide air quality monitoring systems. By integrating innovation, research, and deployment, the Centre is working to enable accessible, reliable, and scalable air quality solutions for both urban and rural regions.

Supported by leading global philanthropies such as Bloomberg Philanthropies, Open Philanthropy, and the Clean Air Fund, and in collaboration with government and industry partners, this thematic area is driving impactful solutions toward cleaner air and a more resilient climate future.
