A hot spot imaging technique

The Department of Science and Technology has funded this project. There is an ever increasing need for protecting power grids against damage by making them resistant to faults which are major fluctuations in the power drawn from a grid. The project aims to build the prototype of a smart superconducting circuit breaker which isolates the power grids during a fault condition. A new imaging technique which helps in detecting local hot region (hot spots) generated in superconducting switches is also being developed.
