To obtain a Minor in Statistics and Data Science students must take the following courses:

• MSO205: Introduction to Probability Theory
  or MSO201 or HSO201 or CS203
• SDS208: Data Science Lab 1
• SDS211: Theory of Statistics
• SDS441: Linear Regression and ANOVA

The incoming strength for approval of Minor in Statistics and Data Science would be 20% of the sanctioned strength of the program.

Students from other majors can pursue a double major in Statistics and Data Science once approved by the Office of Academic Affairs. Below are the requirements for completing the Double Major.

Note: The mandatory SDS courses list above has courses that have prerequisites from the same list. A student cannot take these courses in a single semester.

A BS with Honors (BSH) can be pursued by a BS student with a CPI above 8.5 by taking appropriate postgraduate courses after approval from the Office of Academic Affairs.

Note: A student may take additional UGP3 of 09 credits against DE (if taken within the department) I OE (if taken outside the department, as consented by the DUGC) requirements. A student can also take a 4th UGP; however, it will NOT be counted towards fulfilling the graduation requirements.

Note: The department recommends PHY114 & PHY115 for the SDS students.

Note: (As per the Senate-approved program) Up to 45 credits of internships in lieu of open electives can be taken. This can be done through the courses SDS321 Internship I, SDS322 Internship II, SDS323 Internship Ill, SDS324 Internship IV, SDS325 Internship V, each of 9 credits. One would have an option to earn 45 credits of OE through internship courses by spending a full semester in an industry, or may do online internships (under one or more OEs) from the industry, spread across different semesters. The process for enrolling in the internship courses is as follows: the student identifies a viable internship opportunity in the general realm of statistics and data science and identifies a supervisor in the SDS department. The student, in consultation with the host industry/organization, submits a proposal to the DUGC with the approval of the industry liaison and the departmental supervisor, upon which it will be evaluated for approval, and the requisite number of credits (in multiples of 9) will be decided. The grading scheme for the internship courses will be S/X. 

Note: In view of the institute guidelines regarding Credits for External Activities (CEA), the total combined credits earned from internship courses (mentioned in the above note) and EDE/EOE must be at most 45, with the restriction that at most 27 credits of EDE/EOE are allowed. 

Note: The following specific credit restrictions apply to students pursuing a BS in Statistics and Data Science (SDS) due to curriculum overlap with Department Compulsory (DC) courses: 

• CGS698C will not be counted towards the graduation requirements of a BS SDS student.
• Only one of CS771 or EE708, but not both, can be counted as an Open Elective (OE).

The BS program may be extended into a 5th year to pursue an MS provided the student is eligible. An MS in Statistics and Data Science can be Category A (students enrolled in BS Statistics and Data Science) or Category B (students enrolled in another major).
