IIT Kanpur offers 13 Halls of Residence for students equipped with a TV room, a reading room, mess, canteen and sports amenities such as badminton and football courts. The rooms in these hostels are available on a sharing basis and are non-airconditioned.

The Institute also offers AC rooms for students in the Visitor's Hostel-2 (VH-2) on a single or sharing basis. The dining hall at VH-2 takes care of all meals for residents.
