Admission Calendar Admissions to the M.Tech. programme is made during March-May and the session commences in July. The Dean of Academic Affairs notifies the admission calendar each year. Applications are submitted through online portal which becomes active sometime in March. After the scrutiny of all submitted applications, the selected candidates are invited for a written exam and interview to the campus. The candidates who are selected after the written exam and interview are informed through our website and/or a letter.

Process
Admission to M.Tech. Programme, IME Department, IITKanpur for July 2014
(Not applicable to NRI/PIO and foreign applicants)
Eligibility Criteria for applying to the program
1. | Valid Score Card of GATE-2014 and/or GATE-2015 and |

(a) The applicant must have a bachelors degree in engineering or a masters
degree in science with marks/CPI not below the specified minimum (which is 55% or a CPI of
5.5 on a scale of 10.0). (b) Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes who have passed the basic qualifying degree (bachelor's degree in engineering or a master's degree in science), are eligible to apply irrespective of the marks/CPI and will be considered for admission. |

The following stages are involved in the admissions process for the M.Tech. program, IME Department,
IIT Kanpur.
STAGE1: Apply if you meet the eligibility criteria
STAGE2: Shortlisting of the applicants
A committee-in-charge for M.Tech admissions will prepare separate short lists for each category based on the following criteria. For GN and OBC applicants
For SC and ST applicants

STAGE3: Written test and Personal Interview
(a) | Written aptitude test will be conducted for all the short listed applicants. Only those candidates whose satisfy the written test cut-off will qualify to appear for the personal interview. Cut-off marks would be different for each category. |
(b) |
A committee-in-charge for M.Tech admissions will conduct the personal interview to evaluate the
suitability of the candidate for the program based on academic background of the applicant, his/her general
academic proficiency, etc. |
STAGE4: Merit List Preparation
A merit list would be prepared for each category b ase d on the aggregate score that is computed as follows:

70% weightage: Valid GATE Score (this would be the scaled score based on the absolute
score obtained by the applicant in GATE-2014 or GATE-2015 examination). |
(b) | 30% weightage: Personal Interview |
Applicants belonging to different categories (GN, OBC, SC, ST, (PH)) will be separately merit listed.
The cut-off marks for different categories will be decided by the committee-in-charge for M.Tech
admissions. The applicable norms on reservation (OBC: 27%, SC: 15%, ST: 7.5% and PH 3% horizontal across GN,
SC, ST and OBC) will be observed.

Stages 2 , 3 and 4 processes for GN, OBC and SC&ST applicants will b e conducted independently.
These two groups, i.e., GN, OBC and SC&ST will not be compared at any stage during the selection
process. |

At any stage during the admissions process or during the M.Tech. program at IIT Kanpur, if it is found that
the candidate has misrepresented, falsified or hidden relevant information, his/her
candidature/admission would be summarily rejected and the candidate would have to leave the program if he/she
has joined the same and no fee deposited will be refunded. |

FAQ
How many seats are there in IME MTech course?
There are 26 seats in the program. The reservation of seats is in accordance with the central government rules.
Which streams of B.Tech. / B.E. can apply for this program?
This is an interdisciplinary program; any student who has a valid GATE score in any stream can apply.
What is the selection procedure after I get a call letter from IME department?
You have to appear for a written test and then selected student will appear for interview.
What will be the syllabus for written exam?
The objective written test mainly consists of quantitative aptitude, reasoning and English language.
I have not received any confirmation for my draft submission which I have sent by post. What should I do?
You can contact IME office.
What are the format of SC/ST, OBC and Person with disabilty certificates?
Pertinent information for reserved category candidates called for written test: Please note that IIT- Kanpur employs a centralized standard format of certificate for reserved category students.
Those students who have applied in the reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/PD),
should bring with them the appropriate certificate in that prescribed format when they come for the written test.
