IIT Kanpur is located on the Grand Trunk Road, 15 kilometers west of Kanpur City and measures close to 420 hectares (1,000 acres), which includes gardens, parks, administrative buildings, departmental buildings, tutorial blocks, workshops, gymkhana, student’s hostel, and faculty and staff residential quarters. IIT Kanpur is maintaining a safe and secure campus for all students, faculty, staff, visitors and institute’s property and physical assets. The institute is under professional security cover 24x7. A variety of personnel sufficiently trained and qualified with majority retired from Paramilitary Forces and Armed Forces are being utilized. They are entrusted with the task of ensuring a safe and secure campus conducive for all educational activities with utmost emphasis on safety of personnel and property. The department is effectively guided and administered by the SAEC, Security Officer, Deputy Security Officer and Assistant Security Officers through the Security Supervisors. SAEC includes representatives from the faculty members, staff members and students. The security team comprises of well qualified and highly trained security personnel that include security guards, security supervisors, armed guards and Lady security guards.
