Call for Walk-in Interviews

Applications are invited for PhD admission to July 2026 semester in the following PhD programme(s) via walk-in interview (online mode) at the Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE):

Dates & Links:

  • Deadline for submitting applications: 17th June, 2026 (Wednesday), 02:00 PM
  • Notification of interviews to the shortlisted candidates: 19th June, 2026 (Friday)
  • Interviews to be held (via online mode): 23-24th June, 2026 (Tuesday-Wednesday)
  • Final merit list / Offer letters to be released: 1st July, 2026 (Wednesday)
  • Last date for withdrawal from programme (with Rs. 2500/- deduction): 15th July, 2026 (Wednesday)
  • New PG students reporting: 22nd July, 2026 (Tentative)

*Note: Those who have already applied for the PhD program at SEE and got shortlisted for interview during the normal cycle but could not appear in-person for the interview session, will be notified separately for online interview along with the shortlisted walk-in candidates. The link for the online interview will be communicated electronically.
The candidates who did not qualify in recent PhD admission interviews will not be allowed in this walk-in interview round.

Shortlisting & Minimum Eligibility Criteria

Departmental Shortlisting Criteria:

  • All candidates must satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria (see below).
  • Candidates must have a minimum of 60% or 6.0/10 throughout from their Bachelor's degree onwards.
  • MS (By Research) 2-year programme in Engineering is considered equivalent to a Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Master's degree in Arts/MBA is not considered.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements (Satisfy any one):

  • A Master's degree in Engineering with marks/CPI not below the specified minimum.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (4-year programme) with a minimum of 75 percent marks / 7.5 CPI and a valid GATE score. The GATE score requirement is waived for candidates with a Bachelor's degree from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).
  • A Master's degree in Science or an allied area satisfying all three of the following:
    (a) A minimum of 65 percent marks / 6.5 CPI in the Master's degree
    (b) First division in Bachelor's degree
    (c) JRF/GATE AIR within the top 5% of candidates that appeared for the relevant paper (waived if the Master's degree is from IITs/IISERs/NITs with a minimum CPI of 8.0).

Note on specified minimum marks/CPI: The specified minimum implies a minimum of 55 percent marks / 5.5 (on a 10-point scale) as long as it is not less than the minimum pass marks/CPI.

Financial Assistantships & Fellowships

Financial support (in the form of Institute Assistantship) is available to the regular (non-sponsored) students of the PhD programme amounting to Rs. 37,000/- per month for the first two years, and thereafter, it is raised to Rs. 42,000/- per month for another three years. The student is expected to carry out the assigned teaching/departmental duties during the programme to maintain eligibility.

Students may also avail financial assistantships from external funding agencies (such as UGC / CSIR / NBHM / DBT / ICAR / ICMR / PMRF etc.) as well as several attractive fellowships from Industry / DAE / MNRE.

  • Reservations [EWS/SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/DAP] shall apply strictly as per Government of India (GoI) norms.
  • For Application Form, Reference Letter Form, Information Brochure, and other key workflows, check the portal link: IITK PG Admission Links.
  • Students who are in the final year of their programme (likely to finish the programme by July 24, 2026) may also apply and secure provisional admission for the session commencing in July 2026 (2026-27-I Semester).
  • Financial support (Institute Assistantship/Scholarship) will be provided to non-sponsored PhD students.
  • Those employed in industry, or a college/university/institute may also apply for admission as sponsored, external, or part-time candidates.

Withdrawal from the Programme

  • The last date of withdrawal from the programme (with Rs 2500/- deduction) is July 15, 2026. If withdrawal is received after the aforesaid date, deductions will apply as per institute norms.
  • Refund processing will be taken up after August 15, 2026, and may take up to 21 working days to process.
  • Withdrawal applications must be submitted through the official link below along with required scans.
Required Upload Documents for Refund:
  • Signed application containing details (Application number, Department, Program, Amount paid)
  • Fee payment receipt confirmation copy
  • Clear Bank details (Name, Branch, IFSC code, Account number, and home address)
  • Photocopy/Scan of the front page of the bank passbook

Indian Nationals can apply only through the standard integrated web form environment setup for the departmental application routing.

Hard Deadline Warning: The deadline for application in online mode is June 17, 2026 (Wednesday), 02:00 PM. Please note that this is a strict deadline and no extensions will be made.

  • PhD applicants may arrange for two letters of reference as well. The names and corporate email addresses of referees are to be provided directly within the online applications portal to initiate secure electronic submission invites.
  • The application fee is Rs. 500 for General, EWS, OBC, and OBC-NCL candidates and Rs. 250 for SC/ST and all DAP candidates.
  • You are required to process payments via net banking/NEFT to the verified registrar account listed below and upload the receipt wrapper directly inside the application.
