IIT Kanpur helps farmer increase their income

 

   

A group of 25 farmers of have been selected by IIT Kanpur for a Capacity Building for Adoption of Organic Farming. The efforts are on to give technologies to farmers so that they get onto bandwagon of natural and organic farming, promote preservation and food processing, and give them a direct connect to the consumers.


The goal is that farmers adopt IIT Kanpur and NABARD have come together to launch multiple developmental initiatives, and the first one is this 3-day exposure visit of farmers. Ms Rita Singh convener of the program told ‘Many young and bright people in Kanpur district are taking onto agriculture now, and they are ready for new experimentations. Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is providing platform to these people to come together under a banner, share knowledge and resources.At the same time, SIIC Incubation Centre is nurturing start-ups in the agriculture sector.



She talked about app developed by Campus Haat and Sabji Kothi developed by start up companies of IITK. UBA and SIIC, together with NABARD and Aranyaani Food Forest to help develop useful technologies and reach out to small and medium size farmers’.UBA IIT Kanpur is already working with Aranyaani Food Products that works on natural farming, restoring local ecologies, promoting food forests and natural produce.


This morning farmers were welcomed to IIT Kanpur and addressed by Dr Rajesh Kumar of IIPR, Prof J Ramkumar and Prof Sandeep Sangal of IIT Kanpur. The group is led by Mr Alok Kumar, and will be taken on a tour of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Banda, and shown work done by awardee farmer Mr Prem Singh. The later has done pioneering work in sustainable farming, and processing of organic produce.
