“The development of the highest quality of scientific and engineering manpower to cater to the needs of Industry, R & D Organisations and Educational Institutions who shall have a broad grasp of the fundamental principles of sciences and the scientific method, deep understanding of their area of specialisation, innovative ability to solve new problems, and the capacity to learn continually and interact with multidisciplinary groups. Above all, they should have a capacity for free and objective enquiry, courage and integrity, awareness and sensitivity to the needs and aspirations of society.” With this end in view, the programmes are designed to include submission of a thesis through which a student may develop his concepts and intellectual skills.
These programmes with their courses and specialised research aim to prepare students for their professions by enabling a perspective and breadth of knowledge related to the principal divisions of their respective fields of specialisation. A postgraduate student will typically be enrolled for three or four courses each semester, until he/she attains the necessary levels of competence before embarking on his research and thesis.
