Kanpur, March 25, 2026: The Kotak School of Sustainability at IIT Kanpur organized the 4th lecture under the Swastibhavatu Lecture Series, supported by the Rawat Family Trust, to bring together leading voices in sustainability. The series continues to serve as a platform for fostering dialogue, sharing knowledge, and inspiring action towards sustainable development, engaging students, faculty, researchers, and policymakers.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, and a distinguished leader in atmospheric, oceanic, and polar sciences. Speaking on "Blue Economy: India's Opportunities and Challenges," Dr. Ravichandran highlighted India's vast Exclusive Economic Zone and its immense potential for sustainable ocean-based development.

He discussed opportunities in harnessing ocean resources for energy, food security, and freshwater systems, while emphasizing the importance of scientific research, technological innovation, and integrated policy frameworks.

The lecture also addressed pressing challenges such as climate change, marine ecosystem degradation, and sustainable resource management. Dr. Ravichandran underscored the need for a balanced and science-driven approach to strengthen the blue economy's contribution to India's sustainable development and economic growth.
