📌  Heartfelt congratulations to all the students who have excelled in JEE Advanced and International Olympiads!! We are delighted to welcome you as prospective UG'26 candidates for the BS/BT programmes at IIT Kanpur. This page, maintained by the UG team of the Center for Mental Health and Wellbeing, will serve as your central source for all important information.

Here is some of the initial information for you and your parents:
  • 📌 Undergraduate students of the Y26 batch are required to report in person to the institute on July 21st, 2026 (Reporting Day) between 7:00 am and 7:30 pm.Students may arrive at any time within the specified time window. This flexible reporting schedule is intended to accommodate varying travel plans and help reduce rush hour congestion. We expect your cooperation to help us maintain a smooth reporting process during peak hours.
  • 📌 On 21st JULY (Reporting Day), Boys have to report at HALL 13, and Girls have to report at HALL 4, respectively. Accommodation in the hostels (Halls of Residence) will be provided on the same day upon arrival and reporting.
  • 📌 IIT Kanpur has various canteens and mess facilities. Students can access these facilities from 21st July 2026 onwards. IIT Kanpur also has a Health Centre and Pharmacy, both of which operate 24/7.
  • 📌 After in-person reporting, students are required to stay in their allotted halls or on campus and are not allowed to leave the campus. They must spend the nights only in their allocated halls. This instruction is part of the institute's office order and is strictly enforced.
  • 📌 All Y26 students must register on the anti-ragging portal at its official website. The reference ID generated after registration is extremely important and must be noted down, as it will be required for further stages. [Instructions]
  • 📌 Hostel rooms will be equipped with only basic furniture, including cots, chairs, tables, and cupboards. However, mattresses, pillows, blankets, and other materials will not be provided. Stalls will be present near the halls to buy these items.
  • 📌 The Parents Orientation Program has been planned for 22nd July afternoon. The program will also be streamed online for your convenience.
  • 📌 Please download and keep a safe copy of every document provided by JEE Advanced and JoSAA in each round of allotment. They may be used in the admission procedure.
  • 📌 Parents/Guardians are welcome to accompany the students; however, please note that we do not provide or arrange accommodation for the Parents/Guardians. They are welcome to spend time with their wards in the halls from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm. Parents/Guardians are requested to leave the halls by 7:30 pm. FAQs

You will have to reside outside IITK as your hostel room will be allotted only on 21st July.
Please note that the date of reporting to campus is 21st July from 7:00 am- 7:30 pm, and rooms will be allocated on arrival itself. Students are very strongly recommended to reach on 21st July, otherwise, they will miss a part of their Orientation. Orientation will be from 22nd July onwards. Parents Orientation is scheduled on 22nd July itself.

No, parents are not required in any step of the orientation/registration process. However, there is a Parents Orientation planned for 22nd July which the parents are encouraged to attend.

Parents can visit their ward’s allocated hall. They must vacate the Hall at 7:30 pm at night. They must make arrangements for their lodging themself. It's recommended that parents make arrangements in advance.
Digilocker files will work for online uploading and verification. But for offline on-campus document verification, we require original tangible documents.

Tentative fee certificate for new batch of B.Tech/BS/MSc is available in DoSA website under the head 'News and Events' 'For New Students'. However, if you require semester wise fee details, please write to dosarecep@iitk.ac.in.
The fees waiver are given to the following category of students: - MEB: Most Economically Backward families (income < ₹1 lakh) get 100% tuition waiver. - OEB: Other Economically Backward families (income ₹1–5 lakh) get 1/3rd tuition fee. - SC/ST/PWD: Fully exempted from tuition based on category certificate. No waiver for M.Sc./Ph.D/MBA/M.Des/DIIT students except SC/ST/PWD category.
Copy of complete Income Tax Return (ITR) of family (Self, Father, Mother, Unmarried Siblings) and Tuition Fee Waiver Affidavit on Rs. 20/- Stamp paper duly signed by First Class Magistrate/Public Notary as per format available on DoSA website. No. EWS certificate alone is not considered. Income proof must comply with Para 4(a).

PAN Card is mandatory for filing ITR. If zero income, declare PAN number and zero income. If parents don’t have PAN, they must apply for it.

Reaching IITK

By Air

The most popular air route to IIT Kanpur is through Lucknow Airport (IATA: LKO | ICAO: VILK). Lucknow is connected by direct flights to and from major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru
Note: Kanpur airport (Chakeri) is now open to civilian purpose. The Airport is located around 21 Km from IITK and cabs are available to and fro.

 

By Road

Kanpur is connected to NH-2 that runs between Amritsar and Kolkata and connecting cities like Delhi, Agra, Allahabad, Patna. Kanpur is also connected to Lucknow on NH25 and is about 91 km from Lucknow. Cabs are available from Lucknow to reach IIT Kanpur.

By Train

Kanpur is well connected by railway network with nearly every major city. Numerous overnight trains are also present from major cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore. IIT Kanpur is about 17 km from the Kanpur Central Railway Station.
Direct buses to campus front gate are there from Jhakarkati. Tempos and Autos are also available which take about Rs. 200 - Rs. 250 from Station to IITK campus. One can also find shared auto services (commonly known as Vikram) for as low as 40 Rupees from Kanpur Railway Station, outside Platform 9 to campus front gate.
Metro services are also available from Kanpur Central Metro Station to IIT Kanpur Metro Station from 6am to 10pm daily.

Hall Allocation

The Hall Allocation for 2026-27 is as following.
Boys: Hall 13
Girls: Hall 4
The reporting help desk numbers will be updated here a night before the reporting.

It is mandatory for all registered students of IIT Kanpur to reside in the halls of residence assigned to them. The halls assigned to the first year boys students is Hall 13. Hall 4 is the hall of residence assigned to the first year girl students.

The rooms and roommates in the halls are also assigned randomly to the students by the institute keeping in mind various factors. It is not possible to entertain a request for room/roommate change. It is also compulsory for a student to register in his/her Hall of Residence's mess.

  • Hostel rooms will be equipped with only basic furniture, including cots, chairs, tables, and cupboards. However, mattresses, pillows, blankets, and other materials will not be provided. Stalls will be present near the halls to buy these items.
  • The campus has two shopping complexes and food courts, and all halls have their own stationery, photocopy, and other related shops. Students can purchase materials from these shops if they wish to travel light. These shops provide items at reasonable prices. Toilets are equipped with geysers, and several washing machines are available for use in each hall.
  • IIT Kanpur has various canteens and mess facilities. Students can access these facilities from 23rd July 2026 onwards. IIT Kanpur also has a Health Centre and Pharmacy, both of which operate 24/7.

Students need to arrange their own Mattress, Pillow, Blanket etc. There are two shopping complex at IIT Kanpur – old shopping complex and new shopping complex for students to buy their essential items. Apart from this each hall have their own stationary shop and canteen as well.
Only married candidates are provided accommodation to reside with dependents.

Details regarding assistantship duties, course selection, and additional courses will be explained during the DPGC meeting. Attendance is mandatory.
This will be discussed during the DPGC meeting and depends on department rules.
Students receiving institute assistantship may be assigned teaching or research assistance duties as decided by the department/faculty.
IIT Kanpur campus is huge so you will need a cycle to commute, there are several bicycle shops in IITK, students can also buy new or second-hand bicycles.
Regularly check official IIT Kanpur emails, keep scanned copies of documents, carry originals during reporting, and attend orientation and DPGC meetings.

Hall Allocation

Accommodation in the Hall of Residences (hostels) will be allocated to students on the reporting day, 23rd July 2026, immediately after reporting.

On the reporting day, boys are required to report at Hall 14 and girls are required to report at Hall 4. Students will be assigned their respective halls and rooms at the reporting location.

Information related to Day Scholar for New PG Students

  • Freshers who intend to apply for Day Scholar status from the beginning of their programme must not opt for hostel accommodation at the time of reporting.
  • A refund of hostel fees, wherever applicable, will be processed only after the approval of Day Scholar status for the concerned semester of the Academic Year 2026 - 27. Students may apply separately for the refund of MEC charges, if eligible.
  • The duly completed and signed copy of the Day Scholar application form (after the generation of Roll No) must be submitted to the DOSA Office (Mr. Saurabh Shukla at ssac_sa@iitk.ac.in) with a copy to Mr. D C Mishra (officer2_sa@iitk.ac.in) and headadmin_cmhw@iitk.ac.in by July 20, 2026, for consideration by the competent committee.

    The Day Scholar application form is available on the DOSA website under Forms (Serial No. 6): https://www.iitk.ac.in/dosa/
  • Students are required to submit a fresh application for Day Scholar status in every semester.

Please note: all students still have to report on 23rd July 2026 between 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM at their respective reporting venues and attend the orientation program.
