Kanpur, December 10, 2024: The 57th Inter-IIT Students Sports Meet was officially inaugurated at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur with a spectacular opening ceremony celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and excellence. The ceremony began with a warm welcome, reflecting IIT Kanpur's legacy of academic and sporting achievements, including its three consecutive general championships. The message emphasized embracing both triumphs and setbacks while cherishing the competitive spirit that defines this prestigious event. The occasion was graced by distinguished Para-Badminton Champion and IAS Officer Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, along with Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, Prof. Braj Bhushan, Deputy Director, and Prof. Shalabh, Acting Dean of Students Affairs, whose presence added to the significance of the event. Their participation, along with faculty, staff, and enthusiastic students, created a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere. A grand March Past, featuring contingents from 23 IITs set the stage for the event. The participating teams showcased their pride and unity in the march, with the IIT Guwahati contingent emerging as the winner of the March Past, leading both in spirit and discipline. The event was further elevated by a lively performance from the Rajputana Rifles Band, which energized the crowd and added to the grandeur of the ceremony. The official Theme Song Release and the symbolic Mashal Ignition Ceremony underscored the enduring spirit of the games. Participants also took the Athlete’s Oath, reaffirming their commitment to fair play, integrity, and excellence. Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director IIT Kanpur, warmly welcomed participants from the 23 IITs and said, “The Inter-IIT Sports Meet is a legacy of resilience, teamwork, and shared aspirations. As you compete, remember that the true value lies not only in winning but in the camaraderie and lifelong friendships you build along the way. We are proud to host this prestigious event and look forward to witnessing remarkable displays of skill, determination, and teamwork.” Mr. Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, Para-Badminton Champion and IAS Officer, shared his personal experiences and lessons from his student days: "I still cherish the joy I felt as a student when playing sports. Life at college was about the pursuit of happiness—through academics and sports. While you are here to compete, always remember that sports is about finding joy in the game, learning resilience, and bouncing back stronger after each fall. Life will not always be easy, but the lessons learned on the sports field will shape your character. These are the best days of your life—enjoy every moment, and make the most of this journey." The ceremony also featured a spectacular cultural event by the Anveshana Society of Performing Arts, showcasing a blend of classical, martial and cultural art forms. The evening concluded with a magnificent fireworks display, lighting up the sky and symbolizing the energy and excitement of the games ahead.
