Kanpur, 18 December, 2024: The 57th Inter IIT Students Sports Meet concluded at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), marking the end of a week-long celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and excellence. The meet, which commenced on December 10, featured intense competitions across various sports, including basketball (men and women), cricket (men), hockey (men), table tennis (men and women), tennis (men and women), and volleyball (men and women). The closing ceremony was graced by Prof. Pratik Sen, Dean of Students Affairs and Chairperson of the Inter-IIT Meet 2024, and witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, participants, and spectators. The prize distribution ceremony was led by Prof. Indra Sekhar Sen from Sports and Physical Education Committee, IIT Kanpur, who felicitated the winners of the various events. The march-past, which showcased the spirit of teamwork during the opening ceremony, with IIT Bhilai and IIT Jodhpur sharing the third position, IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur tied for the second position, and IIT Guwahati claiming the top honors. In basketball, IIT BHU clinched the top position in the men’s category, with Ayush Rai from IIT BHU named the Most Valuable Player (MVP). In the women’s category, IIT Bombay emerged as champions, with Muskan Jain from IIT Bombay awarded the MVP. The basketball awards were presented by Prof. Indra Sekhar Sen, IIT Kanpur In cricket, IIT Bombay emerged victorious in the men’s category, with Sarthak Khosla from IIT BHU recognized as the MVP. The hockey competition saw IIT Delhi claim the first position, with Harshit Chowdhary from IIT Delhi declared the MVP. The awards were presented by Prof. Debopam Das, IIT kanpur. In table tennis, IIT Madras secured the first position in the men’s category, with Dhruv from IIT Kanpur named the MVP. In the women’s category, IIT Jodhpur claimed the top spot, with Kanmani Rao from IIT Jodhpur awarded the MVP. The awards were presented by Games Counsellor Prof. Gopakumar. In volleyball, IIT BHU emerged as champions in the men’s category, with Saurav Lamba from IIT BHU declared the MVP. In the women’s category, IIT Bombay claimed the top honors, with Misumba from IIT Bombay recognized as the MVP. The awards were presented by Prof. Aditya H. Kelkar from IIT Kanpur. In tennis, IIT Kanpur secured the first position in the men’s category, with Aradhya Goel from IIT Kanpur named the MVP. In the women’s category, IIT Ropar claimed the top spot, with Vrinda from IIT Ropar awarded the MVP, also presented by Prof. Aditya H. Kelkar. The women’s general championship was won by IIT Madras, followed by IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur in second and third positions, respectively. In the men’s general championship, IIT Delhi claimed the first position, with IIT Kanpur and IIT Bombay securing second and third positions, respectively. The overall general championship was won by IIT Bombay. The awards were presented by Prof. Pratik Sen. The ceremony concluded with the declaration of the sports meet closed, the lowering of the flag, and the handing over of the flag to the next host IITs – Madras, Hyderabad, and Tirupati. Heartfelt gratitude was extended to all the workers whose efforts ensured the success of the event. The Convenor delivered the vote of thanks, and the event concluded with the national anthem. The event celebrated the competitive spirit, talent, and camaraderie among the brightest young minds from across the IITs, leaving behind cherished memories and inspiring moments that will resonate for years to come.
