IIT Kanpur and King George's Medical University, Lucknow Showcase Healthcare Innovations at SIB-SHInE SYNC 2.0, Supported by Department of Biotechnology, GoI

 

   
  • The event provided a platform for the fellows of SIB-SHInE cohort 2, who are working on pioneering healthcare technology ideas, to receive valuable feedback from esteemed experts in the healthcare field

Kanpur, 24 July, 2024: The School of International Biodesign - Synergizing Healthcare Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SIB-SHInE), a collaborative program between Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and King George's Medical University (KGMU) Lucknow, supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, successfully organized SYNC 2.0. The event served as a dynamic platform for SIB-SHInE fellows to showcase their progress in healthcare innovation and receive valuable feedback.


Prof. Amitabha Bandyopadhyay. Co-Professor In-Charge of SIIC & Prof. Rishi Sethi, Program Directors of SIB-SHInE (IITK & KGMU), inaugurated the event, and was attended by dignitaries including Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur; Prof. Soniya Nityanand, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, KGMU; and Dr. Abhishek Kumar Mehta, Scientist, DBT.


In the inaugural address, Prof. Amitabha Bandyopadhyay and Prof. Rishi Sethi shared an overview of the program's origin, its significant evolution over time, and its pivotal role in shaping the healthcare innovation ecosystem. The event featured presentations from three teams, each highlighting their innovative healthcare technologies to a distinguished panel of scientists and industry experts including Prof. Sanjay Behari, Prof. Sanjay Kala, Dr. Anant Bhan, Mr. Prabal Chakraborty and Mr. Sanjay Banerjee. The event was further enhanced by the presence of senior stakeholders who delivered keynote addresses.


Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur, highlighted the role IIT Kanpur is playing in the MedTech sector by stating "There are tremendous opportunities in the MedTech domain and IIT Kanpur is rightly positioned to take advantage of this through its existing ecosystem. With collaboration from Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College, King George’s Medical University, and our upcoming Gangwal School of Medical Science and Technology, I am sure the translational output will be unmatched".


Dr. Abhishek Kumar Mehta, Program Coordinator of the Bio-design program at DBT, offered a compelling perspective of the Biodesign program by stating "The Bio-design program has come a long way from sending our fellows abroad to hosting international fellows under the program. This only showcases the growing strength of our medtech sector in India. I thank the participating institutions like IIT Kanpur, KGMU, and other Bio-design centres for this achievement".


Prof. Soniya Nityanand, Vice Chancellor of KGMU Lucknow, expressed her support for the Bio-design program, stating, "This is a wonderful program run by IIT Kanpur and KGMU. We are ready to support the program. This program is pivotal to our Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. I thank the Department of Biotechnology for their invaluable support."


The SIB-SHInE SYNC 2.0 event highlights the collaborative spirit and shared commitment of IIT Kanpur, KGMU, and other stakeholders in advancing healthcare innovation, paving the way for significant progress in medical technologies in India.
