Inter IIT Cultural Meet 8.0 inaugurated at IIT Kanpur

 

   

Kanpur, December 24, 2025: The Inter IIT Cultural Meet 8.0 (IICM 8.0) was formally inaugurated on 23rd December at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur with a grand opening ceremony celebrating art, expression, and cultural unity across the IIT fraternity. The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana, marking an auspicious start to the national cultural festival and invoking blessings for the days of artistic celebration ahead.



The inaugural proceedings were graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. Soma Ghosh (Padma Shri awardee and renowned Hindustani classical vocalist), the Guest of Honor, Prof. Manindra Agrawal (Director, IIT Kanpur), Prof. Braj Bhushan (Deputy Director, IIT Kanpur), Prof. Pratik Sen (Dean of Students’ Affairs, IIT Kanpur), and Prof. Sagar Chakraborty (Chairman, CMAC, IIT Kanpur). Through their addresses, the speakers highlighted the role of cultural platforms in shaping well-rounded leaders and fostering empathy, creativity, and collaboration among students.


In her address, Dr. Ghosh reflected on the responsibility of institutions in preserving India’s rich artistic heritage while inspiring future generations to innovate and express themselves fearlessly.


A captivating Kathak performance––showcasing rhythm, storytelling, and artistic finesse––presented by Ms. Kratika Singh and Ms. Priyanka enthralled the audience. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sagar Chakraborty, acknowledging the efforts of organizers, volunteers, and participating contingents.


With this ceremonial beginning, Inter IIT Cultural Meet 8.0 stands officially open. Over the coming days, students from IITs across the country will engage in vibrant competitions, workshops, and performances across music, dance, drama, literature, and fine arts—celebrating creativity, camaraderie, and the shared cultural spirit of the IIT community.
