Blind channel learning and spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks.

Increase in wireless services results in demand for more spectrum hence spectrum scarcity arises. This is due to the inefficient allocation of spectrum. Cognitive radio is the promising solution to avoid the spectrum scarcity.

Research Topic

Contention resolution using burst segmentation in Optical Burst Switching.

One of the key problems hindering the realization of optical burst switching (OBS) technology in the core networks isthe losses due to contention among the bursts at the core nodes. Handling contention losses is a unique problem in bufferless OBS networks which cannot be handled similar to congestion in the traditional networks.
Various schemes such as optical buffering, wavelength conversion, burst segmentation (BS), and deflection routing are proposed for contention resolution in the literature. The Burst Segmentation scheme avoids the loss of entire burst and helps in the recovery of at least some packets in a burst and can reduce the packet loss probability by a significant extent.

Research Topic

With the rapid expansion of the modern wireless communication technology,low cost compact and mass producible hybrid integrated circuits have been attracted significant interests among researchers. One of the most important component of these hybrid microwave and millimeter wave integrated circuits are high Q filters along with other attractive features e.g. high slope selectivity, low insertion loss, flat group delay etc. Recently, a new technology has emerged to incorporate high-Q circuits in planar substrate and to integrate with other planar printed circuit technology which is known as "Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW)".
