Kanpur, November 29, 2022: As India takes strides as one of the fastest growing economies in the world, and had recently surpassed UK as the fifth largest economy, the business and technology landscapes are also changing rapidly. A steep rise in startups across sectors, and unicorns have propelled India’s growth as a leading technology hub. It is complemented by significant investments in the manufacturing and service-providing industries, and the other allied sectors. Digitization, process automation, and data analysis are some of the key factors that are driving the economy currently.
With India’s GDP projections set to double up to US$7.5 trillion by 2031 as per some reports, the economy will be largely driven by a skilled workforce up-to-date with all the essential skills. More than 80,000 jobs are available in the country for the economics, finance, and public policy sector. Moreover, reports also suggest that the country is equipped to be one of the three in the world to generate over $400 billion in annual economic output from 2023. For this massive transformation to take place smoothly, the country requires a highly skilled workforce that can spearhead the upcoming challenges to shape the nation’s future.
To fill in this talent gap, IIT Kanpur has launched new eMasters degree programmes in - Economics, Finance and Public Policy; Economics, Finance and Data Analysis; and Economics and Finance in Business. These three new programmes will help professionals build expertise in developing futuristic public policies, strategic decision-making skills, and gaining business intelligence and decision-making perspectives. Designed by the Department of Economic Sciences, IIT Kanpur, these three eMasters degree programmes will provide an in-depth understanding of the key areas.
The eMasters Degree Programme in Economics and Finance in Business will equip professionals with a practical understanding of financial concepts, economic tools, and pricing mechanisms with a core emphasis on business finance. The eMasters Degree Programme in Economics, Finance and Data Analytics will help professionals deepen their understanding of economics and finance with strong exposure to quantitative economics and data analysis. The Economics, Finance, and Public Policy Programme will help professionals build relevant knowledge and capabilities integral to dynamic policy planning and implementation process.
The eMasters degree programmes come with a flexible completion timeline of 1-3 years, making it a unique and preferred choice for working professionals. Moreover, selection into these programs doesn’t require GATE score. World-class faculty and experts from the forefront of cutting-edge research at IIT Kanpur teach the 60-credit, 12-module industry-focused curriculum. The programmes also offer a credits transfer facility where a waiver of up to 60 credits can be transferred for higher education (MTech/PhD) at IIT Kanpur. The weekend-only live interactive classes coupled with self-paced learning are a bonus.
The programmes’ immersive learning format gives professionals access to IIT Kanpur’s placement cell, incubation cell, and alumni network, leading to successful career advancement and networking experience. They also get to visit the IIT Kanpur campus to interact with their fellow peers and the esteemed faculty. After successful completion, the learners get Senate-approved degrees through a convocation. Professionals signing up for these programmes stand a chance to stay ahead of the curve in India’s changing economic landscape.
