Kanpur, 10 September, 2024: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), in association with Zishan Ali Tennis Academy, successfully hosted the 2nd Kanpur Open Tennis Championship 2024. The championship featured 10 categories, including Under-6 Boys/Girls, Under-8 Boys/Girls, Under-10 Boys/Girls, Under-12 Boys/Girls Singles, Under-14 Boys/Girls Singles, Under-16 Boys/Girls Singles, Under-16 Boys/Girls Doubles, Men’s Open Singles/Doubles, and Women’s Open Singles. The two-day event saw enthusiastic participation, with 120 competitors from across the city taking part in all categories. The event was inaugurated by Prof. J. Ramkumar, Dean of Infrastructure and Planning, IIT Kanpur; Mr. Syed Ali, Director of Zishan Ali Tennis Academy; and Mr. Amit Dohaery, Physical Education Coach at IIT Kanpur. In their inspiring speeches, they highlighted the benefits of tennis, encouraged participants to strive for excellence, and commended the young athletes for their dedication, urging them to perform at their best. During the closing ceremony, prizes were distributed by Mr. Gaurav Shah, Regional Head of HDFC. The 2nd Kanpur Open Tennis Championship saw remarkable performances across all categories. In an impressive display of talent, Saatvik Gupta and Anaya Sen emerged as standout performers in the championship. Saatvik Gupta clinched victories in the Under-14 Boys Singles and Under-16 Boys Singles categories, while also teaming up with Kaustav Singh to win the Under-16 Boys Doubles. Anaya Sen dominated the girls' categories, winning the Under-14 and Under-16 Girls Singles, along with the Under-16 Girls Doubles with Pragya Saxena. She also triumphed in the Women’s Open Singles, further establishing her as a versatile champion across multiple age groups. Their exceptional performances marked them as the championship's brightest stars. Other winners included Aadya Singh in the Under-10 Boys/Girls category, Rudra Pratap Shukla in the Under-12 Boys Singles, Anvita Singh in the Under-12 Girls Singles, Rohan Ravi in the Men’s Open Singles, and the team of Anurag Mishra and Nawaid Alam in the Men’s Open Doubles. Runners-up included Ahana Sen, Aryan Srivastav, Pragya Saxena, Kaustav Singh, Anees and Vansh, Bhuvika Kapoor, Vidhi, Anirudh Sairam, Shubham and Yash, and Radhika Prasad, who all showcased strong performances throughout the event. The championship provided a platform for young talent to showcase their skills, highlighting IIT Kanpur’s role in promoting sports and fostering a spirit of healthy competition in the community.
