October 14, 2022: Hon’ble Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, today inaugurated IInvenTiv - the first-ever all-IITs R&D Showcase at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. The two-day event that would conclude on October 15, brings academia and industry under one roof to showcase India’s global R&D strength. The inaugural session was also graced by Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairperson Bharti Enterprises, as the Guest of Honour, accompanied by Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman, Steering Committee IInvenTiv; Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy, Co-Chairman, Steering Committee IInvenTiv; and Dr. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director IIT Bombay, and Convener, Steering Committee IInvenTiv. The R&D Fair is being organized in commemoration of the 75th year of India’s Independence in line with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative. It has brought over 300 representatives from industry, including startups, along with government, and embassy officials, and global IIT-alumni. Apart from that, overall footfall of around 3000 attendees is expected throughout the event, which includes faculty, students, and research scholars from various institutions, among others. There are 75 projects and 6 Showcase projects on diverse themes such as, Defence and aerospace, Healthcare (including devices and digital health), Environment and Sustainability (including air, water, rivers), Clean Energy & Renewables (including Hydrogen and EV), Manufacturing (including smart, advanced and industry 4.0), AI/ML/Blockchain technologies (including quantum computing), Smart Cities & Infrastructure (including smart mobility), Communication Technologies (including education and 5G), Robotics, Sensors & Actuators, and Semiconductors, Flexible electronics & Nanotechnology, being exhibited at the event. The projects are aligned with the vision of Make in India, Digital India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat, and are aimed at impacting the lives of all sections of society. Out of the 6 showcase projects, IIT Kanpur has led the showcase on the advancements in drone technology and how India can leverage from it; IIT Bombay has led a presentation on the Bahubhaashak project, which enables speech-to-speech translation of NPTEL, SWAYAM, MOOCs videos in vernacular languages, in-line with the vision of National Education Policy 2020; IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur have jointly led a showcase on 5G Core and allied technologies; IIT Delhi has led a showcase on the R&D in the broader areas of climate change, agriculture, rural technologies, sanitation etc; IIT Kharagpur has led a presentation on affordable healthcare devices and technologies; and IIT Hyderabad has led a presentation on the technological innovations in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. The projects range from India’s indigenous micro-processor SHAKTI, Matsya Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, TacVibes: a novel haptic watch for the visually impaired, 3D bioprinted skin disease models, portable emergency ventilators to Global Navigation Receiver Chip (Dhruva) Development for NAVIC, and Bhu-Parikshak soil-testing device, to name a few. The two-day event would host representatives from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), along with students, global IIT alumni, faculties of various CFTIs, scientists from DRDO, ISRO, CSIR and ICAR, and so on. About IInvenTiv: In its first year, IInvenTiv is an R&D Fair organized under the supervision of a Steering Committee headed by Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman, BoG IIT Madras; Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman, BoG IIT Hyderabad and IIT Roorkee. The event marks the coming together of all the 23 IITs under one umbrella to showcase their respective research and innovation expertise to create more awareness around them. The mega R&D showcase commemorates the 75 years of India’s Independence as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, and is aligned with the Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India, and Digital India initiatives. This Fair is also aimed at seeking out collaborations among the state institutions, industries and the higher academia for futuristic research and innovations.
IIT Kanpur to showcase R&D expertise with 12 R&D projects at IInvenTiv, the mega all-IITs R&D Showcase
Kanpur, October 11, 2022: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, will showcase 12 critical R&D projects across domains at the IInvenTiv, the mega R&D Showcase among the IITs, to be held from October 14-15 at IIT Delhi. The event would mark the first instance where all the 23 IITs would come under one platform to highlight India’s global R&D prowess and to seek more collaborative avenues among state universities and institutes, industry, and the IITs for ensuring holistic research and developmental implications, covering the grass roots level. The inaugural session will be graced by Hon’ble Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, as the Chief Guest. IInvenTiv will have six Showcase projects and 75 projects in total on diverse themes. IIT Kanpur will lead the Showcase on drone technology and will jointly lead the Showcase on 5G Technologies with IIT Madras. Prof. Abhishek from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT Kanpur, will moderate the Drone Technology Showcase, where he would lay emphasis on IIT Kanpur’s R&D works in the domain and would highlight how IIT Kanpur is leading as one of the only institutes to have expertise in all the three UAV types – fixed wing drones, flapping wing drones, and unmanned rotor-wing/helicopter drones. IIT Kanpur also boasts of some leading drone startups such as, EndureAir, VTOL Pvt. Ltd., to name a few. In terms of 5G, IIT Kanpur developed the Baseband Unit (BBU) of the 5G NR base station under the multi-IIT project funded by the Department of Telecommunications, Govt. of India, for developing an indigenous 5G Testbed for India. Prof Rohit Budhiraja from the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, will jointly lead the 5G Technologies showcase, which will also highlight India’s 5G rollout and the key issues at stake. Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT Kanpur said, “As India sprints towards the Amrit Kaal, critical R&D across sectors is the need of the hour. At IIT Kanpur, we’ve always had a front-foot approach when it comes to research & innovation at the national as well as grassroots level. We’re glad to be featuring twelve of our projects at IInvenTiv and to lead the drone and 5G technologies showcases. I believe the event would highlight India’s global R&D potential and would bring the industry and academia closer for accelerating collaborative growth across sectors.” IIT Kanpur filed a record-breaking 107 patents (97 national and 10 international) last year, the highest in the institute’s history. This is a testament to the R&D strength the institute possesses. The selection of the 12 projects for IInvenTiv also makes IIT Kanpur the institute with highest-approved projects for the showcase. This includes IIT Kanpur’s invention of TacVibes: A Novel Watch for the Visually Impaired, which is equipped with haptic sensors, and a tactile interface with tactile hour indicators; and the Bhu-Parikshak, a hand-held soil-testing device that can detect soil health in under 90 seconds. This is a revolutionary invention aimed at reducing the time and hassle for farmers in testing their soil. The institute will also showcase an Instant Water Quality Probe that can detect water quality with better accuracy at an affordable cost, an M15 fueled two wheeler Prototype in the alternative fuel sector, a technique of using IoT-based Air Quality Sensors and Real-time Chemical Speciation for Industrial Emissions and Air Quality monitoring, among many. The two-day Fair would bring representatives from IITs, and several other higher educational as well as small-town institutions; the industry, and government institutions, together.
