IIT Kanpur Partners with DICUL AM Pvt. Ltd. to Advance Patient-Specific 3D-Printed Implants

 

   

Kanpur, December 22, 2025: IIT Kanpur and DICUL AM Private Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in the design, development, and manufacturing of patient-specific, 3D-printed biodegradable and non-biodegradable implants for orthopaedic and spinal applications.


Under this collaboration, IIT Kanpur will lead the design and development of customized implant solutions, while DICUL AM Pvt. Ltd. will undertake manufacturing in accordance with applicable regulatory standards. The Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education & Research (DMIHER), Wardha, joins the partnership as a key clinical collaborator and will support the initiation of clinical trials.


Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur, underscored the importance of multi-institutional and industry partnerships in enabling the indigenous development of advanced medical implants. He highlighted how such collaborations align with national priorities under the Make in India initiative and the Viksit Bharat Abhiyan 2047.


The project is being led by Prof. Ashok Kumar and his team from the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering as a flagship initiative of the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, currently headed by Prof. Sandeep Verma. Both Prof. Kumar and Prof. Verma emphasized that strategic academic–industry–clinical collaborations of this nature have the potential to significantly enhance India’s global competitiveness in the medical implants market.
