Kanpur, 29 September 2024: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) has joined the nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa 2024’ campaign under the theme Swabhav Swachhata—Sanskaar Swachhata. The campaign, which commenced on 17th September and will run until 2nd October, aims to reinforce the importance of cleanliness across India. Since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in 2014 by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, this initiative has brought a behavioral shift in the nation, towards hygiene and sanitation, increasing cleanliness awareness every year. During the campaign, Prof. J. Ramkumar, Dean of Infrastructure and Planning at IIT Kanpur, and Shri Vishwa Ranjan, Registrar of the Institute, administered a cleanliness oath to all attendees. While addressing the audience, Shri Vishwa Ranjan emphasized, "We must all take the initiative to create a clean environment, starting with our own homes. Incorporating cleanliness into our daily lives is not just important but essential for our health and well-being. Cleanliness is service, and this campaign is a pledge to keep our institute, city and country clean. It’s about making our community a healthier place for all." Throughout the fortnight-long program, the institute is conducting various cleanliness activities, encouraging everyone to make cleanliness a fundamental part of their lives. The aim is to contribute to the goals of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for all citizens. The campaign was attended by several key personnel including in-charge and officer of the Institute Construction Department, Shri RK Verma, VP Singh, Vinay Tiwari, Manish Kharwar, Sudarshan Das, Rajesh Gupta, Venkatesh, Virendra Singh, RP Singh, Murali, Dinesh.
