Deliberations on sustainable technologies, future of work and health took centre stage at IIT Kanpur’s Youth20 Consultation

Kanpur, April 6, 2023: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur reverberated with the enthusiasm of hundreds of youths as they gathered for the Youth20 Consultation. Being organized under the G20 Presidency of India, the Consultation was hosted from 5th-6th April, 2023 at IIT Kanpur. Kanpur Divisional Commissioner Dr. Raj Shekhar inaugurated the event and addressed the delegates and participants as the chief guest. More than 1500 youth delegates from across India and abroad took part in the Y20 Consultation at IIT Kanpur.



Speaking at the event, Dr Raj Shekhar, Kanpur Divisional Commissioner said that events like the Y20 Consultation are ground breaking as it paves the way forward for India for being showcased as a self-reliant, sustainable, resilient haven that exports manpower, services and technology. It also helps to improve the talent of youth who constitutes 65% of population of the country. He added that institutes like IIT Kanpur are crucial for the growth of the nation as it provides an enabling environment.


Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director IIT Kanpur, said, “India has now entered the next 25 years of ‘Amrit Kaal’ and it is very fitting that we’ve assumed the G20 presidency. During the last six decades, IIT Kanpur has been driving technology and innovation across domains, being at the forefront. We have a robust research and innovation ecosystem, and have incubated a large number of start-ups which are going to drive the future of work in an increasingly technology-driven world.”


“The deliberations on “Future of Health”, “Technologies for Sustainable Future”, and “Innovation in Future of Work”, hold greater perspectives for the future, and I hope that the ideas brought forward by the young minds here will make a far-reaching impact at a global scale,” added Prof. Karandikar.


The interactive deliberations during the Y20 Consultation at IIT Kanpur put emphasis on technologies for sustainable future, Industry 4.0, technologies which will affect the future of work, future of education as well as future of health.


Esteemed panels consisting of experts and entrepreneurs shed light on India’s journey in core domains of innovation and technology and how we can make an impact with collective measures, globally.


As a host of the event, IIT Kanpur held a grand exhibition with more than 50 stalls displaying diverse technologies and innovations that can make an impact even at the grass roots level. The exhibition showcased a plethora of low-cost devices, innovations and technologies. A cultural evening with Hindustani and Carnatic Classical Music pulled the curtains down to the Y20 Consultation at IIT Kanpur.

Y20 Consultation at IIT Kanpur kicks off


  • Panel discussions on "Future of Health", "Technologies for Sustainable Future", and "Innovation in Future of Work", to be held

  • More than 1200 youth delegates is taking part in the event

Kanpur, April 5, 2023: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur kicked off the Youth20 Consultation on 5th April, 2023. The event, being organized under the G20 Presidency of India, is expected to host more than 1200 youth delegates from across India and abroad.


IIT Kanpur hosted a delegation of more than 15 senior delegates on 5th April, 2023. The delegates had a familiarizing session with the IIT Kanpur team and went for boating at Ganga Barrage in the afternoon. The delegates enjoyed quality time by the banks of the River Ganga and appreciated the arrangements for sightseeing.



The evening was magical with the Ganga Aarti at the Ganga Barrage, Kanpur. The delegates were mesmerized with the sublime aura of the River Ganga in light of the holy Ganga Aarti.


The delegation were also taken to visit the holy JK Temple of Kanpur. The temple is revered by the people for its aura and the unique blend of modern and ancient architecture. The delegates revelled at the sublimity of the site. The proceedings of Day 1 concluded with a dinner at IIT Kanpur.


The Y20 Consultation is a forum that unites young people to network, exchange thoughts and experiences, and discuss solutions to urgent global issues. A pan-Indian event, the Y20 Consultation is being conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in the lead-up to the final Youth-20 Summit, which will take place in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The discussions that result from these talks would help shape future policies.


Five core themes are identified for the Y20 Summit 2023, out of which, IIT Kanpur will cater to two – “Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation, & 21st Century Skills”; and “Health, Well-being & Sports: Agenda for Youth”, during the Y20 Consultation.


On April 6, 2023, IIT Kanpur is set to hold three panel discussions featuring distinguished dignitaries and entrepreneurs who will shed light on critical topics such as the "Future of Health," "Technologies for Sustainable Future," and "Innovation in Future of Work." Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the panelists during these discussions.


Additionally, as part of the Y20 Consultation, a grand exhibition featuring over 50 stalls will be organized. The exhibition will showcase innovations across domains, along with tech stalls by startups incubated by IIT Kanpur. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Kanpur Divisional Commissioner Dr. Raj Shekhar.


The Y20 Consultation will come to a close with a cultural evening featuring Hindustani and Carnatic Classical Music, followed by dinner.

Young minds to deliberate on shaping future policies at Y20 Consultation at IIT Kanpur from 5th-6th April, 2023

Kanpur, April 3, 2023: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will be hosting the Youth20 Consultation under the G20 Presidency of India, from 5th-6th April, 2023. Shri Navneet Sehgal, Additional Chief Secretary, Sports, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, has been invited as the Chief Guest and is likely to address the Summit on 6th April, 2023. More than 1200 youth delegates from across India and abroad will attend the Y20 Consultation at IIT Kanpur.


The Y20 Consultation is a platform that brings young people together to connect, share ideas and experiences, and deliberate on finding innovative solutions to pressing global concerns. The Y20 Consultation, under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, is a pan-India activity in the run up to the final Youth-20 Summit to be held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The deliberations from these consultations will help in shaping future policies.

Prof. Arnab Bhattacharya, the coordinator for the event, shared in a press briefing that apart from Shri Navneet Sehgal, various other dignitaries including Dr. Raj Shekhar, Kanpur Commissioner, Shri Pankaj Kumar Singh, Director Youth Affairs, and Shri Vishak G, District Magistrate, Kanpur have been invited and are likely to address the youth and interact with them during the Y20 Consultation on April 6, 2023.


The Y20 Consultation at IIT Kanpur will also hold panel discussions with invited dignitaries and entrepreneurs on the topics of “Future of Health”, “Technologies for Sustainable Future”, and “Innovation in Future of Work”. The attendees will have opportunities to interact with the panelists.


Apart from the panel discussions, a grand exhibition with more than 50 stalls will be organized as part of the Y20 Consultation. The exhibition is likely to be inaugurated by Kanpur Commissioner Dr. Raj Shekhar, and will showcase science and innovation, and education, along with tech stalls by startups from the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT Kanpur. A cultural evening with Hindustani and Carnatic Classical Music followed by dinner will bring the curtains down to the Y20 Consultation at IIT Kanpur.
