Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and Vietnam National University have formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster academic and research collaboration across multiple cutting-edge fields. This MoU marks a significant step towards strengthening bilateral collaboration between two leading institutions in Science and Engineering.

Key areas identified for collaboration include: Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical diagnosis and hospital implementation tailored for Vietnam, AI-driven education and research, including language learning technologies, Infrastructure defect detection using advanced AI methods, Smart city development initiatives, Material prediction and innovative carbon-carbon material applications, and Drone technology for rescue operations and agricultural productivity.

A delegation from Vietnam National University, comprising Dr. Nguyen Thu Huong, Vice Rector; Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering; and Dr. Tran Quoc Quan, Lecturer, Faculty of Civil Engineering, visited IIT Kanpur to explore opportunities for collaboration. This visit follows a prior engagement in June 2025 when Prof. Ashish Garg, Head Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering, IIT Kanpur, visited VNU, laying the groundwork for this partnership.

Prof. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, VNU, said, "Our visit to IIT Kanpur has been extremely fruitful, and we have visited some of the excellent research facilities here. IIT Kanpur has expertise in many of the critical areas of research that are important to our institution as well. I look forward to strong collaborations between IITK and VNU, both on academic and research fronts."

Prof. Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur, added, “IIT Kanpur has a strong ongoing research activities in the areas of environmental engineering, sustainable energy, smart city development, as well as Artificial Intelligence and drone technology. I hope this collaboration with VNU will lead to enhanced capacity building and tackling the pressing problems of both India and Vietnam through collaborative research.”

Prof. Bushra Ateeq shared her thoughts, stating, "We are extremely pleased to formalise our partnership with VNU, a leading educational institution in Vietnam. This collaboration marks a significant step toward fostering a robust bilateral alliance and leveraging shared expertise to create transformative opportunities for students and researchers."

Both institutions recognize their strengths in research and education across science and engineering disciplines and share a mutual interest in academic cooperation. The MoU aims to establish a formal understanding to facilitate collaborative research, academic exchange, and scientific development on a reciprocal basis.

The agreement will benefit researchers, faculty members, and students at both institutions, enhancing knowledge exchange and fostering innovation.
