Kanpur 12 October 2025: The Advanced Centre for Materials Science (ACMS), in conjunction with the Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE), IIT Kanpur, has organized a one-day seminar on “Recent Advancements in Indentation, Scratch, and Tribology” on December 12, 2025.

Prof. Anish Upadhyaya, Head ACMS, IIT Kanpur, welcomed the participants and provided the need for organizing this seminar. Prof. Kantesh Balani, Head, MSE, IIT Kanpur, detailed the important aspects of nanomechanics on material design and discovery. A total of 62 participants attended the session (with ~10 attendees joining via online mode). Anton Paar provided the necessary funding to organize the seminar.

The one-day seminar witnessed three technical talks, where Prof. Kantesh Balani discussed the fundamentals of nanoindentation, Prof. Sudhanshu S. Singh gave a talk on continuous stiffness measurements, and Prof. Manjesh Singh detailed the fundamentals and applications of tribology. A special lecture by Dr. Mohammad A.P. Yazdi (Anton Paar Tritec, Switzerland) provided the application aspects of nanoindentation, scratch, and tribological applications. The afternoon session witnessed a visit to advanced characterization facilities and a demonstration session in ACMS.

The valedictory function welcomed the enthusiastic feedback from the participants seeking more of such seminars, and the event concluded on a positive note with the distribution of certificates to participants.
