Kanpur, January 10, 2023: The Academics and Career Council of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Kanpur) organized the Institute Research Symposium 2023 from January 7-8, 2023, where the PG and UG students of IIT Kanpur from various engineering, sciences, and humanities disciplines showcased their research to the larger community. The Symposium that was held for the first time saw participation of 182 students who presented their research work and new ideas on various domains.

The symposium set a stage for the students, and the rest of the scientific community to come together, share and discuss their innovative ideas and breakthroughs that have the potential to bring a change. It received a plethora of path-breaking ideas from participating students, including one from an under-graduate student regarding personalized medicine. The idea clicked his mind while he was preparing for JEE, he said.

Prof. SN Tripathi, Prof. Manoj Harbola and Prof. Sandeep Verma from IIT Kanpur gave talks which motivated and educated the participants about the need for interdisciplinary research, and the indispensability of disciplined research and networking amongst scientists to address some of the bigger challenges. The participants and researchers were of the view that if a research problem is not solved in one branch of science, is perhaps already addressed and solved in another field. The participants were from different areas of research and it made the experience worthwhile.

Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director IIT Kanpur, while inaugurating the event, emphasized that this Symposium is a game changer and should be expanded to a pan-IIT event.

This symposium can also become a stage for showcasing the research done at IIT Kanpur to a public audience, commented Prof. S. Ganesh, Deputy Director IIT Kanpur.

Inspired by the success, Academics and Career Council announced that the next edition of this meeting is planned to take place in October 2023.
