OBITUARY

Prof. Pradip Sircar

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur

 

Prof Pradip Sircar received his BSC physics in 1974 from Calcutta University and BTech in 1978 from Jadavpur University. He then received his MS and PhD from Syracuse University in 1983 and 1987 respectively. He has been with the EE Dept. at IIT Kanpur from 1988 and retired as HAG Professor which is the highest academic grade for a faculty. He has also been a visiting faculty in Mines Paris Tech and Univ. of Kansas. He was the fellow of IETE and other societies.


Prof Sircar research interests were in signal processing and communication systems. He has published extensively in these areas and also guided several UG and PG students. He has several publications and patents to his credit. He has also published books in the area of signal processing. His favourite area in the recent was Higher order statistics namely the bispectrum. He was also the chairman of several national and international committees.


More than all of this, Prof Sircar was an excellent teacher and admired by students and faculty alike. He was extremely humble despite all his achievements and an excellent human being. The EE department and the IITK community will miss him and mourns his loss. We all pray that his soul rests in peace.

    I am really shocked to know it. He was my first neighbor in SBRA in IITK when I joined in 1988. We had a very close family relation with each other.
    It is hard to believe that he is no more.
    May God bless peace to departed soul and power to family to bear the repairable loss.
