The story of Photoelectric Effect

A course by Dr H C Verma starting 15th July 2021

The all time great scientist Albert Einstein was awarded Nobel prize in Physics in the year 1921 for his theoretical work and discovering the law of Photoelectric Effect. This theory paved way for a huge technologic advancement using generation of electricity from light. The most common solar panels to Night vision cameras used in the surgical strike are outcome of this photon theory.

Prof. H C Verma

We are in the centenary year of Einstein's Nobel Prize.

The course "The story of Photoelectric Effect" by centre of Continuing Education, IIT Kanpur is a tribute to Albert Einstein and to all the scientists involved in one way or other in discovering Photoelectric Effect.

As the name indicates, it is in a story format where the mathematical complexities are skipped to a large extent. We will trace the historical developments in this 12-episode course. The level is such that school students from Std 11 onwards will also enjoy the story and at the same time Masters of Physics will also find many new knowledge about the history of this discovery.

Thus it will be useful to Plus-2/ B.Tech./ B.SC/M.Sc./ research scholars Physics teachers at all level.
