Mr. Prashant Jain is the Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer at 3P Investment Managers, a firm he co-established in 2022 to focus on long-term equity investing. Prior to this, he served as the Chief Investment Officer at HDFC Mutual Fund from 2004 to 2022, where he played a pivotal role in the fund house's growth into one of India's leading asset management companies.
Mr. Prashant completed his PGDM from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore in 1991. Before this, he obtained a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He is also a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Kanpur and IIM Bangalore.
With over 31 years of experience in investment management, Mr. Prashant Jain is regarded as one of the most accomplished and respected fund managers in India. A distinguished alumnus of both IIT Kanpur and IIM Bangalore, Mr. Prashant began his career at SBI Mutual Fund in 1991, later moving to Zurich India Mutual Fund (1993-2003). Following HDFC's acquisition of Zurich India MF, he transitioned to HDFC Mutual Fund, where he remained until 2022.
During his tenure as CIO at HDFC Mutual Fund, the company's assets under management grew from approximately Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 4.4 lakh crore, with around Rs 2.35 lakh crore in equity and equity-oriented schemes. He is the only Indian fund manager-and among the very few globally-to have continuously managed a single scheme for over 28 years. That fund, the HDFC Balanced Advantage Fund (formerly HDFC Prudence Fund), delivered an impressive CAGR of ~17.9% from 1994 to 2022, compared to the Sensex CAGR of ~9.6% during the same period.
Mr. Prashant is celebrated as India's most awarded fund manager and was the first in the country to manage over Rs 1 lakh crore in equity assets. Known for his disciplined, rational investment philosophy, he has consistently identified and navigated market cycles-be it the tech boom in the 1990s, the old economy run of the early 2000s, consumer-focused themes post-Lehman, or the recent focus on banks, energy, defense, and utilities.
In 2022, he co-founded 3P Investment Managers along with Ashwani Kumar and Sharad Mohnot, with the guiding principles of Prudence, Patience, and Performance. Their flagship offering, the 3P Indian Equity Fund, has already gained the trust of around 1,115 families, managing approximately Rs20,300 crore in assets.
