The Mehta Family Center for Engineering in Medicine (MFCEM) at IIT Kanpur has been established through the generous support of Mr. Rahul Mehta, CEO of the Mehta Family Foundation. This visionary initiative aims to integrate IITK’s engineering excellence with cutting-edge biomedical research from the Department of Biological Sciences & Bioengineering (BSBE). The center serves as a hub for developing innovative, engineering-based solutions to complex medical challenges. Focusing on three major areas—Regenerative Medicine, Molecular Medicine & Engineering, and Digital Medicine—the MFCEM promotes interdisciplinary collaboration across various science and engineering departments. It also strengthens academic offerings through integrated Ph.D. programs, MS by research, and undergraduate minors. With upgraded infrastructure and research opportunities, the center is set to transform healthcare innovation and position IIT Kanpur as a leader in the field of translational medicine. In 2024–2025, the Mehta Family Center for Engineering in Medicine (MFCEM) at IIT Kanpur achieved key milestones with faculty earning national recognition, patents being filed, and hosting the Pan-IIT Conference on Engineering in Medicine with participation from 31 institutes. The event, inaugurated by Shri Ranjan Kumar (IAS), focused on Regenerative, Molecular, and Digital Medicine. Additionally, a new M.Tech. program in Biomedical Engineering was launched in collaboration with BSBE and GSMST, featuring a unique clinical immersion at top medical schools starting July 2024.
